Cette oeuvre ne passe rien au marin, à l'explorateur, au citoyen, à l'homme: on y voit ce grand navigateur, envoyé spécialement par François Ie pour trouver un passage vers l'Inde par le Nord de l'Amérique, découvrir le Saint-Laurent, puis d'immenses territoires qu'il nomme "La nouvelle France", être reçu à bras ouverts par les Indiens, dont il ramène le chef à Paris raconter au Roi des histoires fabuleuses. Par trois fois, François Ie le renvoie au Canada, au moins pour trouver des métaux précieux, comme les Espagnols au Pérou. CARTIER, abusé par les Indiens, frise la désobéissance pour rapporter au Roi ce qu'il croit être un monceau d'or et de diamants et qui se révèle n'être qu'un tas de cuivre et de quartz. Ce qui frappe dans ce Jacques CARTIER, ce sont, sous des apparences froides, son humanité, sa modestie - pas de violences ni d'exagération -. L'érudition dont fait preuve l'auteur dans cet ouvrage n'exclue pas le fait qu'il s'agit là d'un récit très vivant qui s'adresse à un très large public. Etat : bon état, tranche décolorée et couverture légèrement passée. bas du dos un peu enfoncé. Article d'occasion, vendu dans la limite des stocks disponibles.
