Wells, in the Buffalo Courier-Express and a Foreword written by W.S.McClevey not found in later issues: 'This little story has been spoken by the author to numerously attended gatherings in different sections of the country for several years past - , St. Louis, January, 1929.' Charles Sale writes - "Lem Putt - that wasn't his real name - really lived. He was just as sincere in his work as a great painter whose heart is in his canvas; and in this little sketch I have simply tried to bring to you recollections of a man I once knew, who was so rich in odd and likable traits of character as to make a most lasting impression on my memory." Hardcover w/ Jacket. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. "This 4.0 x 6.0 inch, 31 page hardcover book with dust wrapper is the 1929 first edition of this title. The copyright page states that this copy is the "Tenth Printing" of that first edition. This copy is in near fine condition with only a touch of time wear to the brown paper wrappers over boards, with black lettering on the front panel. This copy has a very good dust wrapper which shows definite wear to the folds and top and bottom edges, with small missing pieces at the edges of the folds. The wrapper is complete and firm though it does show wear and has several spots on the front panel where the coloration has been lost from jacket. The inside flap of the jacket gives the price as $1.00 for the boards and $3.00 for a leather binding. The book itself shows virtually no damage or wear although several pages show a crinkling to the top edge, very possibly from the printing process. The text features several full-page black-and-white sketchings which lend to the tongue-in-cheek presentation of the books theme - - the building of the heralded American outhouse. This copy shows a previous owner's penciled name and notation on the front pastedown. 31 pages.".
