A work built on Sander's great Citizens of the Twentieth Century Project, which he was not able to complete before his death. The people in the photos are all from Germany, from various walks of life and occupations, from soldiers and Nazi officials to circus people and artists, from children to the elderly. Though the work suggests the pictures go up to 1952, I found only one portrait from the 50s, with the VAST majority being between 1912 and 1938. First edition US. No other printing noted.
