Sewn binding. Condition: Very good. First Edition (?). Oblong quarto, [20]pp., illustrated, including twelve large-format illustrations. Very good in the publisher's printed side-sewn wraps, with some dull soiling to the covers, and very shallow insect damage to the far margins of some pages; barely notable. Contents clean internally. A highly visual sales catalogue, advertising the virtues of this massive powered lawn mower, whose benefits over its horse- or person-driven alternatives are described and shown in their full glory. The machine itself is described thusly: "It works upon the principle of the steam automobile, with gasoline for fuel [.] The boiler will sustain a thousand pounds pressure, and the safety valve will not allow it to retain more than 175 pounds." The illustrations appear to be high-quality drawings and mockups, showing the machine in a large landscaped environment, doing the work of many horses, getting into tight spaces, and in general doing work much more efficiently. At the end of the catalogue is an encouragement to contact the Philadelphia company with questions on pricing and ordering. We could not locate this nicely produced sales catalogue in OCLC, and presume it to be a rare survival. An excellent document of this early mechanized lawn mower, designed for large-scale operations.
