Seller: Frank Hofmann, Yorba Linda, CA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Three volumes, complete. Covers of all three volumes clean. Gilt lettering on spines bright. Interiors unmarked. Vol. 3 has a very small corner bump on top, front. Dust jackets free of tears, chips, stains, marks and dog-ears. Dust jacket of Vol. 3 has a mylar cover. General editor of Mark Twain Project, Robert H. Hirst. Contributing editors for Volume One: Natalia Cecire, Michelle Coleman, George Derk, Christine Hong, Rachel Perez and Leslie Walton. Editors for Volumes Two and Three: Harriet Elinor Smith and Benjamin Griffin. Associate editors for Volumes Two and Three include: Victor Fischer, Michael B. Frank, Sharon K. Goetz, Leslie Diane Myrick, Amanda Gagel and Christopher M. Ohge. The three volumes represent a landmark in publishing, especially considering the various levels involved. First there is the amount of material available, that is, the manuscripts involved. Second, the printing involved consciousness of aspects of conservation. A little information box on the last page of Volume One points out that by using 30% post-consumer recycled paper, processed chlorine-free, the publisher saved 4,956 trees 40 feet tall and 6-8 inches in diameter; 1,570 Million BTUs of Total Energy; 471,180 Pounds of Greenhouse Gases; 2,269,301 Gallons of Wastewater and 137,779 Pounds of Solid Waste. The three volumes are huge and together weigh 11 1/2 pounds, which incidentally means that the postage required will increase a bit. The Mark Twain Project is well along in an effort to produce a comprehensive gathering of all of Mark Twain's output. The university has an immense collection of Twain papers and so far the Project has printed 30-40 volumes. Volume 1, 736 Pages. Vol. 2, 733 pages, printed in 2013, is a first printing. Vol. 3, 747 pages, printed in 2015, is a first printing. Each volume indexed. Each volume has photographs. Each volume has a bibliography. Designer of dust jackets: Sandy Drooker. I'm not 100% sure, but I think these three volumes were the last to be printed on paper by the U. of California.
