It has become increasingly apparent in the last few years that th study of counterpoint should begin with the technique of the later sixteenth century, as exemplified in the style of Palestrina. Since the secular compositions of this composer involve a great deal of melodic and harmonic freedom, for the sake of greater pedagogic discipline, limited the choice of compositions in the compilation to the liturgical church music of Palestrina but have attempted to make the selection comprehensive enough for serious study. A clean very presentable copy.
