Albin Michel 1999. In 4 carré 200 x 245 mm, couverture ill contre pliée, 240 pages. Dense.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. London. Weidenfeld & Nicholson. 1999. First Edition. No publishing remarks. Hard Cover. Post 4to 10" x 8" [25.4cm x 20cm] approx. 238 pp. Purple cloth boards with silver titles to the spine. Touch of toning to the text block. Decorative endpapers. Preface by Stephen Spielberg. Introduction by David Cesarani. Original photography by Geoffrey Clifford. Hint of shelf wear; over all the book and jacket are near fine. Profusely illustrated in colour and black and white throughout. Steven Spielberg's Shoah foundation presents an important historical testament documenting the fate of the Hungarian Jews in the last frenzied months of Hitler's 'Final Solution'. The book was published to coincide with the cinematic release of a documentary film that follows 5 survivors of the Holocaust in Hungary in 1944. Each survivor describes life before the war; the swift and barbarous execution of Hitler's policies from March 1944; their experiences in Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Dachau; and follows them on their return to the camps 50 years later to discover the fates of their immediate families. The Hungarian Holocaust was one of the greatest tragedies of World War 2; the murder of 435,000 Hungarian Jews in the final months of the war, when German power was on the wane. The last days highlights some of the fortunate survivors, in a memorial to those who did not survive. The dust jacket will be protected with a new acetate sleeve which is removable.
