The author found that 73 municipalities have some form of recreation facilities or programs, though only 22 employ dedicated recreation personnel. Most commonly, recreation facilities consist of parks and playgrounds, with swimming pools, baseball fields, and tennis courts being less ubiquitous. Funding for these initiatives comes from general funds and special levies. The book concludes that overall, while larger cities offer more comprehensive programs, recreation in South Carolina municipalities is generally under-resourced and under-developed. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
