Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book details a legal battle over ownership of timber cutting rights on a contested land grant. Following an 1888 lease permitting timber harvesting, the rights to the land were sold to the Androscoggin Timber Supply Company. The lease itself was then assigned to the Rumford Falls Paper Company in 1893. Following years of conflict and negotiation, International Paper Company secretly began logging the disputed territory in 1898, resulting in a lawsuit against them by the Rumford Falls Paper Company and Dartmouth College. The ensuing trial revealed that International Paper Company had intentionally and recklessly ignored information indicating their lack of legal right to harvest the timber and had continued to log after being informed that doing so was trespassing. This book provides essential context on the development of contract law and property rights, persuasive writing, and research methods. It also illuminates the motivations and factors at play when corporations make decisions that harm the environment and violate the rights of others. Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy.
