Add to basketSingle leaf, (100x160mm.), Manuscript on laid paper, sometime folded horizontally. A good copy of a remarkable survival. The Reverend John Heelis, vicar of Dufton and Brougham, in Westmorland, in plurality paid 15 shillings for nine days work to Jonathan Martin for nine days thatching a barn at Mr Harrison's. We can find no record of Martin as a thatcher and the farmer whose barn was worked on was, in all probabilty, either James Harrison of Bongate, or William Harrison of Hoff, both flourishing from 1781. The Rev. Heelis was of the family into which Beatrix Potter married in 1913.
