Item Description: NY: Holt, 1876. First American edition. Cream cloth designed and lettered in black, end papers printed in red, containing publisher's ads. Issued as a volume in the Leisure Hour Series. This copy has a date of May 9, 1876, on the end paper ads. The cream cloth is the primary binding; later copies are in yellow cloth. The cloth is worn at the spine ends and tips, and quite dust-soiled & rubbed - only a good copy, but internally clean and very good. The glue which holds the end papers to the adjacent leaves has dried out, and the leaves are separating. An early printing; copies are also seen with end paper dates of May 20 and June 3.
