Cordelia Gundolf (1917-2008) served on the faculty of Melbourne University from 1960 to 1982 where she headed the Italian department for several yeas. Her childhood was marked by her 1933 escape from Nazi Germany to Paris, an event aided by Albert Einstein, and a move shortly thereafter to Rome. Cordelia spent her summers on the Isle of Capri where she learned English and kept a diary which ultimately was edited by her mother Agathe Mallachow Gundolf and was published as this book.
