Inscribed by illustrator. 160 p.p., [10] p.p. illustrations incl. frontispiece. Paper somewhat brown, with yellowing on rear jacket. Otherwise in near fine condition. The Celtic Twilight is a compilation of Irish folk and fairie tales collected by the poet W.B. Yeats (1865-1939). This edition was illustrated by Canadian artist Jean Townsend (1908-2006). Townsend studied at the Art Gallery of Ontario in 1929-38 and Ontario College of Art in 1938-43. Townsend, along with her husband Saul Field, invented the compotina method of printmaking, an acrylic and gesso based composotion used on the cover. Signed by Artist. Seller Inventory # 000146

Raine, Kathleen [Kathleen Jessie Raine CBE (14 June 1908 - 6 July 2003) was a British poet, critic, and scholar writing in particular on William Blake, W. B. Yeats and Thomas Taylor.
