About this Item: Thomas Y. Crowell, NY, 1979. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Illustated with photos (illustrator). Signed by space scientists and aerospace engineers Frederick I.Ordway lll, Dieter K. Hunze, Major Gen. John B. Medaris, and Walter Haeussermann, members of the Von Braun Rocket Team, responsible for numerous scientific and technological advancements in the 1930s and 1940s. This book focuses on Werner Von Braun's team of engineers who went to work for the US post WWll. The book examines the early years of this story, through the team's work in America. Their goal, from the beginning, was space travel, and the rockets they designed were simply a means to their end. Werner Von Braun is glue that keeps the group unified and the book also serves as his biography. Laid in the book is an autographed letter from Ruth Van Saurma, dated Oct. 12, 1987, to Elisabeth Seewald. " in appreciation of your work for the cause of the German-Americans, from the Friends of German Culture, Huntsville, Alabama". Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 505xi

Wernher von Braun & Frederick Ordway III (1966) ‘History of Rocketry & Space Travel’, US first edition, first printing, published by Crowell. Included is a 8″x10″ black-and-white original photograph of Dr. Wernher von Braun and two associates, signed and inscribed by von Braun, “To Monty with best wishes, Wernher von Braun.” Obtained from the family of Brian Montgomery (“Monty”), a member of NASA’s Lunar Roving Vehicle Group who worked with von Braun during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Condition: the book is near fine with a fine dust jacket protected in removable mylar. The photograph is near fine and would look stunning on a wall in a frame.
