Mary Low Machado (1912-2007) spoke on the radio and edited an English-language newsweekly during the Civil War in Spain in 1936. During the time she was there she worked with the POUM along with her companion, Juan Brea. Her fellow writers included Benjamin Peret, Lois Cusick (Orr) and Charles Orr, Peret was a Surrealist, and the Orrs also edited an English-language newspaper during the war. In England, she and Brea published Red Spanish Notebook, with a Preface by CLR James. The book has been reprinted by City Lights Books. Later full black cloth by Honnelaitre with his stamp to front pastedown, boards and spine with large onlaid panels of paper with patterning by hand, green morocco label to spine with gilt title, original glossy printed wrappers preserved. The scarce complete series of 'L'Age du Cinéma' with the final number in deluxe format. Number 4 in this set is from the édition de tête limited to 150 copies on cream glossy paper, with this one of 100 with Wifredo Lam's original lithograph, numbered from the edition of 150 at lower left and signed in blue ink at lower right and with the three strips of film, each of 8 frames, stapled to a leaf also signed by the contributors (Péret, Man Ray, Toyen, Heisler, Breton et al.). Number 4, the only issue to appear in deluxe format, is devoted to Surrealist cinema with articles by Péret, Man Ray, Brunius (Jacques Cottance), Toyen, Breton, Adonis Kyrou, and others. The wrappers, of silvered photographic paper, features a still from the film 'Surmale' by Jindrich Heisler from a story by Alfred Jarry. The other numbers contain articles and illustrations by Billy Wilder, Elia Kazan, Artaud, Man Ray, Hans Richter, Henry Miller, Georges Goldfayn, Robert Benayoun, and others. Seller Inventory # 46276
