Author Sypherd (1877-1955) was a professor of English at Delaware College (later University of Delaware) from 1906 until 1944. His primary interests were Geoffrey Chaucer, Robert Browning, and the Bible in English translation, most particularly the King James translation. His abridgement with commentary of the King James Bible is helpful to students in its relative brevity while retaining the scholarly integrity of the original English translation text.
