About this Item: Chicago: Down Beat, 1940, 1940. Octavo. Orignal red cloth, title gilt to spine and upper board. With the dust jacket. Jacket clipped, and with some rubbing to the spine and turn-in edges, some chipping head and tail of the spine, but not less of text, a very good copy. Musical notation to the text. First edition. Styled on the jacket, "Secrets, Hints, and Principles of how to build a Dance Band." Edited by the editor of Down Beat magazine, who on the jacket declares: "I have personally read this book, made suggestions to the author and from my own personal experience as a Musician and Editor that everything in this book is based on tested Facts The Author isn't an amateur theorist - he's one of America's most successful Band organizers - a man retained by many of America's 'TopFlight' Bands." With such a puff it is surprising that Mr. Williams left so few traces, a few mentions as a song-writer on the Chicago scene, and in 1965 a mention in the Grosse Pointe News, at "the Riverboat Room Wingy Manone, Great Dixieland Trumpeter along with Roger Niven's Showboat Ramblers featuring, Ralph Rex Williams, Wizard of the Banjo." This copy inscribed; "To Blanc le Bau a Regular True Artist, sincerely Ralph R. Williams.". Seller Inventory # 67164
