Author's warm six-line ink inscription upon the front free endpaper: "To Virginia + Bonner, | who always wanted to know | more about Memphis State | during the Humphrey years! | Love | Bill" (author's first name only signature matches handwriting examples found in signed copies of his football histories for Ole Miss and Mississippi State).
