Item Description: Doubleday & Company, Garden City, New York, 1975. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Early printing; 1975 date at copyright. Also by Stephen King endpaper lists only Carrie as prior novels. Signed by Stephen King on signature cut adhered at half-title page: With all best, Stephen King, 3/18/80." Very attractive. First state, second issue jacket w/mention of Father Cody, the bad priest. Essentially, the first issue jacket as less than half-dozen of jackets priced 8.95 are known to exist - a few turned up in a Doubleday file cabinet. Red boards, black cloth spine wrap, gilt spine titles, lt. shelf wear. Pages fine, clean without writing. Bind fine, square; hinges intact. Dust wrapper moderate chip, rub, crease; 7.95 price apparently clipped, protected in new clear sleeve. Sharp, near fine early printing in rare original jacket. One of Stephen King's true classics, where he offers an interpretation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. In SK's second published novel he describes Salem's Lot as a town first touched by an evil and horrific murder-suicide involving a prominent citizen - and former hitman - named Hubie Marston. And, now overlooked by this empty and terrible house. The village has its collection of small-town secrets and moral corruptions, though, and is finally invaded by a Vampiric plague, starting with the shadowy new owner of the Marston House, Richard Straker, and his familiar, Kurt Barlow. Another new resident, writer Ben Mears who grew up in the town, joins with a local doctor, a teacher, and young Mark Petrie to fight against the town's demise. Salem's Lot knew darkness and the awful, heavy silence of terrifying images grotesquely dancing in and out of the shadows. Stark, white faces, huge, glowing eyes and long, gnarled hands that reached out with lustful insistence. The paralyzing fear of a diabolical corruption and hideous peril more dreadful than death. But, no one in Salem's Lot dared to speak of the high, sweet, evil laughter of a child, and the terrible sucking sounds. 439 pages. 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" design. Printed in the U.S.A. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author(s). Book. Bookseller Inventory # 019198

Item Description: Doubleday, New York, 1975. Hardcover; 1st Printing. Book Condition: NF. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition.. SIGNED by author. 1st edition, 1st printing, Doubleday, 1975. This 1st printing (stated on copyright page) book's dustjacket had 3 issues: the 1st rumored to be only 25 copies priced at $8.95, all kept in-house by Doubleday and never published with the book. This is the 2nd issue dustjacket - very scarce because of the Father Cody mistake on the front flap (later corrected in the 3rd issue to Father Callahan) that was price clipped by Doubleday and repriced at $7.95 printed beside the publisher clip. The book has the required (to be a real 1st printing) Q37 code at the lower end of the gutter of the last text page. The book is Near Fine+. Straight, clean, tight, no binding spots or soiling, with just slight softening to the cloth at spine ends and a few very small, very faint tanned spots to outer page edges near the back of the text block, and on the top of the front free end page the previous owner's name plus in different writing her place and dates of birth and death. The book is SIGNED by Stephen King on the title page, right below his publisher printed name - just his name with no inscription. A lovely example of King's 2nd book, and a Fine example of the fragile dustjacket (usually found chipped and tattered). Even the red part of the lettering on the spine isn't faded as you usually find it. Only things keeping it from being As New is a tiny trace of white showing through the black at the front flap fold line, and a couple of very tiny professional edge repairs. Collector's copy. Made into a TV series, which is what really got King's career started. ; 8-7/16" x 5-3/4"; 439 pages; Signed by Author. Signed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 9301
