Cover is considerably lighter than posterboard. HISTORY. "In April 1777 the British, eager to reverse their defeats at Princeton and Trenton, sent an army under William Tryon to destroy the cache of military stores at Danbury, Connecticut. Tryon landed at Compo Beach in Westport and marched virtually unopposed to Danbury, where his troops destroyed large quantities of food and military materiel. Patriots, under the command of Benedict Arnold, closed in behind the British and attempted to block their return, first at hastily constructed barricades at Ridgefield and then at the bridge over the Saugatuck River in Westport. The rediscovry of a map made by a British engineer who accompanied Tryon sheds new light on the episode at the Saugatuck bridge. The whole story of the British escape is told here for the first time. Tryon's route and the military actions at Saugatuck bridge and Compo Hill are illustrated with 16 maps, including fold-outs. " . Reference Lists. (K-1-A) . Seller Inventory # 43565
