Black cloth lettered in silver, without jacket, as issued. pp xvi, (102), [2] + folding map; photos and maps in text. Fine copy. Signed by the crew of the St. Roch II and by James P. Delgado, who wrote the new introduction. "During the eastward voyage 1940-42, the St. Roch wintered at Walker Bay, west side of Victoria Island, 194 0-41; proceeded via the southern route, south of King William Island, and north to Pasley Bay, west side of Boothia Peninsula, where the schooner wintered 1941-42; continued north through Bellot Strait and east through Lancaster Sound to Pond Inlet on Baffin Island; thence to Sydney, N.S. On the westward trip in 1944, the schooner accomplished the first Northwest Passage in a single season, Via Pond Inlet, Lancaster and Melville Sounds, and Prince of Wales Strait. These papers include a short history of the St. Roch, navigation reports providing information on Ice conditions and navigation difficulties, patrol reports of sledge journeys, a realistic portrayal of the work and the working conditions of the police patrols; and tables of air and sea temperatures taken three-times daily during the second voyage, July 29-Sept. 20 1944." - Arctic Bibliography 14926. Bound in very dark grey cloth with silver lettering on upper board and on spine. One leaf has a very short tear on top edge, otherwise a nice clean copy. This facsimile edition includes a new introduction, B&W illustrations from photos and two fold-out maps not contained in the original report of 1945. Additionally this copy is signed by the Captain of the St. Roch II, Ken Burton, which in the summer of 2000 re-enacted the historic voyage through the North West Passage in 1942 from Vancouver to Sydney, NS of the original patrol vessel the St. Roch. Inscribed on the title page (of this facsimile edition) "In the wake of the St. Roch! / Kenneth K. Burton, Sgt. / Captain St. Roch II".
