About this Item: ELSP, 2013. Soft Cover. Condition: Very Good. 72 pages clean and tight. Dimensions: 14.8 x 0.6 x 21 cm. When he retired from teaching, H.S. Carter wrote a number of memoirs in which he recorded. various aspects of life during the Occupation of Jersey during World War 2. He gave copies of these to his three children. When going through his papers following his death, his eldest daughter Barbara discovered a small, tattered exercise book, the contents entitled `Recollections and Reflections of events in June 1940 in Jersey'. His preface explained: 'I write these notes for whomsoever it may interest in the future, exactly one year after their occurrence, as I again live through mentally, these unprecedented days of turmoil.' This was dated 20th June, 1941. Barbara knew it would be his wish as a teacher to record these historical events for the future. She therefore joined her father's writings with her own memories, and was fortunate to be able to include Doctor Likeman's valuable contribution. Size: 8vo. Seller Inventory # 141675
