First Edition
Black and white drawings by R. Williams (illustrator). First Edition. The title novella is a beautifully written and poignant exploration of family, nature, and the passage of time, using the art of fly-fishing as a profound metaphor for life's complexities and spiritual connections. Maclean wrote this America classic at the age of 70, following his retirement from the University of Chicago as William Rainey Harper Professor of English. The true first printing of the book, with error in ISBN on copyright page and misspelling on page 27. The dust jacket lower fore corner is clipped, leading us to suspect it may be a second printing jacket. However, minor patterns of wear are consistent between the jacket and the book, indicating that they likely have been together since being issued. A beautiful, bright copy with no prior ownership marks. Fine in a very good dust jacket. Shallow bumps at spine ends, spine lettering remains bright. Jacket has slight rubs at fore corners, a few shallow wrinkles at spine ends, a couple of tiny rubs along lower joint fold, and a short 5/8" long abrasion near top fore corner of rear panel. Hardcover. Octavo. xiv, 217 pages.
