Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Book Condition: As New, Dust Jacket: As New, 1st Putnam Edition 1984, DUNE, by Frank. Herbert. Opposing forces struggle for control of the universe when the archenemy of the emperor is banished to a barren world where water is the most precious commodity. This Hugo and Nebula Award winner tells the sweeping tale of a desert planet called Arrakis, the focus of an intricate power struggle in a byzantine interstellar empire. Arrakis is the sole source of Melange, the "spice of spices." Melange is necessary for interstellar travel and grants psychic powers and longevity, so whoever controls it wields great influence. The troubles begin when stewardship of Arrakis is transferred by the Emperor from the Harkonnen Noble House to House Atreides. The Harkonnens don't want to give up their privilege, though, and through sabotage and treachery they cast young Duke Paul Atreides out into the planet's harsh environment to die. There he falls in with the Fremen, a tribe of desert dwellers who become the basis of the army with which he will reclaim what's rightfully his. Paul Atreides, though, is far more than just a usurped duke. He might be the end product of a very long-term genetic experiment designed to breed a superhuman; he might be a messiah. His struggle is at the center of a nexus of powerful people and events, and the repercussions will be felt throughout the Imperium. Dune is one of the most famous science fiction novels ever written, and deservedly so. The setting is elaborate and ornate, the plot labyrinthine, the adventures exciting. Five sequels follow. --Brooks Peck.

The book has some fade at the top and bottom of blue board. The pages line flat as if new and unread but there is a smattering of insect damage along the top of the boards (see accompanying picture). The spine is tight and the tips are pointed. The jacket is not price clipped but has a small crease on the back cover. Now in archival mylar cover the book looks quite good. Packaging is suitable for wrapping.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. Signed copy of Dune, by Frank Herbert. I marked as very good condition due to one small mark on the spine of the cover. No folded pages or other damage. Some fading on the inside cover. Has only been read once. First blank page has hand written in pencil, which I will put in the picture. This was obtained at a book signing. First Putnam Edition, 1984 PS3558 E63D8 1984 813'.54 83-16030. The inside of the jacket sleeve on the top has some discoloration. I didn't see it until I was taking these pictures, it is not visible until the cover is off. I am not a dealer and will happily answer any questions or send more pictures. Signed by Author(s).
