Was man dann im Kino zu sehen bekam, war aber weder ein 'klassischer' Science Fiction-Film à la Blade Runner, der berühmtesten aller Dick-Adaptionen, noch das, was es auf den ersten Blick zu sein schien: ein Zeichentrickfilm. Als der Film fertig war, unterzog ihn Linklater nämlich einer digitalen Manipulation, dem sogenannten Rotoskopie-Verfahren, bei dem die realen Bilder mit Zeichentricktexturen überlagert werden. Von hier zum Comic ist es nur noch ein kleiner Schritt: Sequenzen von Filmbildern mit Sprechblasen versehen und drucken. Das Buch zu einem Film also, der bereits im Originalmaterial graphisch verfremdet wurde. Philip K. Dicks literarische Vorlage bietet sich für solche optischen Manipulationen durchaus an. Schließlich geht es um die Vervielfältigung und den Verlust von Identität durch Drogen - wobei die fiktionale High Tech-Welt des Romans noch eine zusätzliche Doppelbödigkeit bereithält: Der 'Held', ein Drogenfahnder, kann zur Tarnung seine Physiognomie und sein Erscheinungsbild verändern, bis auch er der Droge erliegt und schließlich sich selbst jagt. Visualisiert und auf allen medialen Ebenen bis zum Comic ausgereizt, nimmt die Spaltung der Persönlichkeit unaufhaltsam ihren Lauf. 189 pp. Deutsch.
