About this Item: Mailand: Electa Editrice, 1980. Broschiert. Condition: Sehr gut. 267 S. mit sehr zahlr. Abb. Einband berieben. - Presentation - Visual Arts - Art in the Seventies - Art in the Seventies Open 80 - Pavilions - Argentina Australia Austria Belgium - Brazil - Canada China Colombia Czechoslovakia - Egypt - France - Germany - Great Britain - Greece - Holland - Hungary - Israel - Italy - JapanNordic Countries: - Denmark - Finland - Iceland - Norway - Sweden - Peru - Poland - Portugal - Rumania - Spain - Switzerland - United States of America - Venezuela - Yugoslavia - Balthus - The Museums of Prague Czechoslovakia!! modern art - Experience at Bordeaux Mario De Luigi August Strindberg - Index. -- Visual Arts This is the first event organised by the Visual Arts Sector, within the general programme of the four-year plan, with the following aim: "To reconstruct the complex episode of the changes that have taken place over the last decade, and to examine, in an analytical and projectual way, the artistic history of the seventies, in comparison with that of the sixties, with a chronology that could vary, obviously from one country to another, and from one experience to another, in Europe and in other continents, with particular attention to the undeveloped countries." In this XXXIXth edition of the Biennale, 32 countries are taking part, including the People's Republic of China, which for the first time honours us with its presence. This number could have been even larger if the traditional areas of the Castello Giardini were not too small to provide room for them all, maintaining unchanged the idea of unity of place and time, that is of a community, within which each individual country has its own identity, playing its own part. This year, however, in order to meet its commitments, the Biennale has prepared additional exhibition space to give hospitality to countries who as yet have no pavilion of their own: China, Argentina, Australia, Columbia and Peru. There is also a new temporary pavilion designed by Costantino Dardi, the able, patient designer of the exhibition, sited beside the canal that divides the Giardini from Sant'Elena. This growing demand is an encouraging sign of the vitality of the Biennale. It is a sign in which the fascination of Venice, city of the arts, mingles with the fame of a Visual Arts exhibition which is the oldest of the important International Biennale events, and perhaps the only one that is really irreplaceable, since it embodies a tradition to which it can continually refer when it is reborn after a difficult period. In this climate of goodwill it is easy to work, to overcome difficulties without and within, solve all the problems, give a positive response, even if this is not always as exhaustive as it ought to be, to the gestures of goodwill that reach us from afar. The commissioners of the national pavilions, those of the International Exhibition, and of the other shows that spread the Biennale over the urban context of Venice, have all taken part in the complex work of the Visual Arts Sector with an enthusiasm for which I feel I must express my heartfelt gratitude. It is thanks to their efforts that the XXXIX Biennale is what it is, able to reach its conclusions, temporary though these may be, by means of a lucid, correct method of criticism, and with a wide ranging, stimulating collection of cultural elements. Amongst these elements, in an institution like that of the Biennale - one that must always have an eye on the latest events, i.e. the vital, throbbing debate, and at the same time remember its connection with a tradition that has always given great emphasis to the present - pride of place goes to the International Exhibition of the Art of the Seventies which is being held in the central pavilion in the Giardini, and which finds its provisional conclusion in Open 80, an exhibition in the Salt Warehouses on the Zattere. This exhibition aims to exemplify the tendencies, the projections towards the future of the eighties. The art of the seventies is not a real them. Seller Inventory # 1020869
