About this Item: HarperCollins Publishers Inc, United States, 2006. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. Raising Cane Abigail Timberlake Washburn understands the antiques game is a gamble -- so she doesn t know what to expect when she wins the bidding for the contents of an old locker that has been sealed up for years. It s a delightful surprise when she discovers inside a collection of exquisite old walking sticks -- and a not-so-delightful one when she pulls out a decrepit gym bag containing . . . a human skull! The last thing the diminutive South Carolina antiques dealer needs is to be suspected of foul play. So she grabs her chatty assistant (and future sister-in-law), C.J., and heads out to search for a killer they can stick it to. But this cane case will be no walk in the park -- with its arcane clues hinting at poaching, counterfeiting, smuggling . . . and homicide, of course. And when a fresh corpse turns up, things are about to get really sticky for Abby and her staff of one. Seller Inventory # AAS9780060535193

About this Item: Pasadena, Calif.: Pacific Asia Museum. Recent publications., 1983. Condition: Good. CD-ROM in jewel case. CD-ROM contains a PDF of the original 1983 book. 109 pp., 67 illustrations (some in color). Chang's importance as a master of traditional Chinese painting has been widely recognized. He has held a distinctive position in that world as one of the last great literati painters, exemplifying the wandering scholar-painter seeking new avenues of expression while nurtured by roots deep in the great tradition of Chinese painting. Wherever he lived, whether in Argentina, Brazil, California, Taiwan or in his home in Szu-ch'uan, he maintained a life-style few painters have been able to emulate in the 20th century. He surrounded himself with the trappings of old China. He had a fine collection of Chinese paintings from antiquity and gathered fantastically shaped rocks so admired by the Chinese scholar. Seals- both antique and modern, as well as those he carved himself- filled his painting table. Most important of all, he created gardens to fulfill a spiritual need in order that he might be inspired to greater heights in his painting. He took delight in dressing the part of a Chïng scholar, walking with a gnarled cane in his old age, his white beard flowing down his silk gown. Requires Adobe Reader or similar program to view.
