About this Item: Orient BlackSwan Pvt. Ltd, 2011. Softcover. Condition: New. Distant Dreams is an innovatively constructed anthology designed to turn undergraduate students into perceptive readers of poetry by helping them make reasoned speculations about a text, by helping them to make a text-based argument and by helping them understand the finer shades of meaning encoded into a poem. Students are also encouraged through all the stages of reading to speculate, since competent reading is based on hypotheses formation and testing, necessitating going back to the text repeatedly. The introduction and ?About the poet? section help them speculate and introspect on the text to help them arrive at and formulate an interpretation of a poem and to support that interpretation by providing logically valid reasons. The ?During reading Discussion? points help them put together a well-constructed analysis of the poem. These points not only elicit their basic understanding of what is there, but also lead to an ongoing construction of meaning of the poem, along with the poet. The ?Questions for writing? section derives from the discussion section so that the students? writing becomes coordinated and organised. Each section focuses on theme, genre, versification and use of poetic devices peaking gradually to fit to each level culminating in the questions for writing where all these are to be used concurrently. Though child labour is a global problem it has become a serious problem in developing countries like India. In India 40 per cent of population are children out of this 25 per cent are engaged as child labourer. There are numerous studies on the application of location allocation procedures for solving the problems of space partitioning and allocating new location for infra structural facilities and obnoxious locations like nodal points of road networking market as well as social facilities of an area location of commercial and economic enterprises and locational provisions of distribution of new agricultural technology search the multi criteria decentralized solid waste management facilities and so on. The problems of locational decision in spatial planning have been recognized in three ways (a) the minimisation of Euclidean distance between facility location and users home on a plane (b) the optimization of multi facility locations and hierarchies which tried to solve by applying integer programming formulations and (c) the network optimization problems which have been attempted to solve by considering inter connected nodes representing transport and communication systems and their dynamic aspects. Optimization of space has now become the main theme of operational researches. The similar problems are cropping up in the newly organised spatial activities in the countries of growing economies where clusters of new activities that are recently emerging nodes and reorientation of local economies in its global perspective are major issues to solve. Present proceedings of the conference include the articles on these aspects and would be immense use f. Seller Inventory # 60076

The Fusing Horizons is a collection of critical essays by professors/academicians in Indian Universities on Indian writing in English. Literary concerns of contemporary interest have been refreshingly examined so as to provide a novelty in critiquing spontaneity in response and objectivity in insights. Indian writers from R.K. Narayan to the present are revisited and therefore the book encompasses and deliberates on a wide range of topics. The new perspectives from which writers and their works have been seen enhances a fusion of horizons in this hermeneutical tradition. Dedicated to the memory of Professor Dr. K.S. Ramamurti the essays seek to be insightful jargon free and pluralistic in their approach. Sociological archetypal religious and feminist issues have homogenized here into a refreshing experience. It is hoped that the book would be a rewarding study for students researchers and teachers alike and indeed a valuable possession for all lovers of Indian literature in English. 154 pp. Seller Inventory # 71014
