About this Item: Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 2010. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 190 pages. Published in 2010. Collection of essays on subject. One of the best books on American immigrant literature ever written. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Edwidge Danticat's "Create Dangerously". Her Princeton University Lectures in their final published form. "Locates the inimitable power of truth. Authorship becomes an act of subversion when one's words might be read and acted on by someone risking his or her life if only to read them. Danticat reminds us that, in a cruel twist of fate, her native Haiti gained independence in a bloody slave uprising, not long after the United States did: Our ties, usually unexamined, run painfully deep. Whether eulogizing her family, writing on leading journalist Jean Dominique's assassination and exiled author Marie Vieux-Chauvet, or discussing Madison Avenue Primitive Jean-Michel Basquiat, Danticat documents what it means for an immigrant writer to create dangerously for immigrant readers who read dangerously, awakened and no longer participants in a culture of historical amnesia" (Publishers Weekly). Every book by Edwidge Danticat is quietly enthralling. It blows away the shallow and self-indulgent life stories of her fellow American writers, and deserves to be read by anyone who still cares about writing as literature. An absolute "must-have" title for Edwidge Danticat collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the title page by Edwidge Danticat. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Laid-in are pristine copies of the Souvenir Program and Bookmark of the Brooklyn Book Festival 2013, during which the author's signature was obtained. This title is a contemporary classic. This is one of very few such signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. Winner of the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Foundation Grant in 1998 for "The Farming of Bones". Finalist for the National Book Award in 2007 for "Brother, I'm Dying". Selected by The New Yorker Magazine as one of the "Twenty Writers for the 21st Century". Winner of the MacArthur Genius Grant in 2009. One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER EDWIDGE DANTICAT TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0691140189. Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 18412

2013 Buch Genussvoll verzichten. Infos Wikipedia. Signatur des Illustrators. Seller Inventory # ABE-1479561945709

About this Item: New York City, NY: Powerhouse Books, 2013. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 136 pages. Published in 2013. Retrospective collection of portrait-photographs. One of the most beautiful photography books on the art and artists of the last quarter of the 20th century. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by PowerHouse: Oversize-volume format. Red hard boards with white titles on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs with accompanying Captions by Jeannette Montgomery Barron. She is that rare bird: A photographer who is also a fine writer. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ, which features the young Willem Dafoe on the cover, and with red titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Jeannette Montgomery Barron's "Scene". The finest photographic album of a seminal artistic era: Portraits of the artists of the 1980's. While some of them (notably, Warhol) were already world-famous, many more were not, but were on the verge of their decisive, all-important breakthroughs. Barron also photographed some of their muses, lovers, and patrons. "A remarkable compendium of portraits of renowned personalities of the most exciting era of NYC underground culture, the 1980's. A veritable time capsule of NYC when the young and indomitable flocked downtown in search of places to work and live among like-minded collaborators. These musicians, filmmakers, painters, writers, fashion designers, publishers, actors, models, and photographers played together, worked together, and made their own rules, and changed our culture forever. Fragile young souls, fearless in their desire to remake the art world in their likeness, and a poignant memento of those lost too early" (Publisher's blurb). Aside from Warhol, the luminaries include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Robert Mapplethorpe (all dead), Francesco Clemente, Julian Schnabel, Jenny Holzer, Cindy Sherman, Kathryn Bigelow (of "Hurt Locker" and "Zero Dark Thirty" fame), and William Burroughs. "We look so young. We were so young" (Rene Ricard). He should know. This is his second project on the whole Zeitgeist, the first one, David Armstrong's "Night And Day" (2012), being about the end of the Seventies and the beginning of the Eighties. There are no comparable photographs of the key figures of this artistic scene elsewhere: Intimate without being intrusive, affectionate without being maudlin, and indelible. An absolute "must-have" title for Jeannette Montgomery Barron and contemporary art collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the title page by Jeannette Montgomery Barron. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. She launched the book in New York City during which event her signature was obtained. This title is a contemporary photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. 73 black-and-white plates. Some of the most brilliant artists of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO ANGELIKA PLATEN'S "PLATEN ARTISTS" TITLE IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1576876241. About this Item: The Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, 2007, 2007. SIGNED. "Stealth Subway Artist Keith Haring is the best known of a cluster of young formally trained artists who seized public spaces and made art a part of the daily life of passersby. This group coalesced in the East Village and Alphabet City and included painters Scot Borofsky and Brian Gormley, and sculptor Ken Hiratsuka. They came to the streets with different vocabularies and view points but found working in public spaces an exhilarating and liberating experience." From Mara Williams Exhibition Curator. We offer the stunning catalog from this exhibition beautifully illustrated throughout, many in color showcasing the works of Keith Haring, Scott Borofsky, Brian Gormley, Ken Hiratsuka and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Near fine oblong color illustrated stapled wraps. From the library of one of these artists who has annotated some of the pages with personal notes which may be helpful and informative to the reader. Exceptional offering having three of the five artists signing the full title page with signature and perhaps extra drawing. Also signed by the author Michael Carter. Seller Inventory # 44011
