About this Item: Forgotten Books, United States, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Excerpt from Eustorg De Beaulieu: A Disciple of Marot, 1495(?)-1552 This study of the life and works of Eustorg de Beaulieu was undertaken in the hope that it would give a better understanding of the first half of the sixteenth century, inasmuch as such a study involves not only the author under consideration, but yields information concerning the whole period. In reproducing the text of Beaulieu, I have taken only those liberties which were absolutely necessary, such as the adding of diacritical marks where there might be ambiguity, and punctuating where the sense demanded it. Many inconsistencies will therefore probably be discovered in the spelling and punctuation of the citations. I hope, however, that they will not give the impression of carelessness, but that the reader will keep in mind that I tried to retain as far as possible the sixteenth century text. It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge here my indebtedness and gratitude to Professor Adolphe Cohn, for giving me a true understanding and appreciation of French literature. Without his inspiring influence, this study, undertaken as part of the requirement for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Columbia University, would never have been attempted. To Professor H. A. Todd of Columbia University I am likewise indebted, for through the insight he has given me into Old-French literature and into the origins of the French language, I was enabled better to understand the period studied in this book. I also wish to express my gratitude to Professor Raymond Weeks for teaching me to appreciate the beauties of Old-French literature. To Professor John L. Gerig of Columbia University I am grateful for not only having introduced me to the study of sixteenth century literature, but for the valuable assistance he has given me in the preparation of my manuscript. I have to express my gratitude to Dr. Caroline Ruutz-Rees of Rosemary Hall, for having suggested a study of Beaulieu. It also gives me pleasure to acknowledge my indebtedness to M. Abel Lefranc, professor at the College de France, in whose courses both at that institution and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes I received valuable information and encouragement. About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2013. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. The Voyage West delivers storyteller Mark Beaulieu s third volume recreating Eleanor of Aquitaine s rich medieval world on land and sea. As a spirited crusader, the young French queen and mother must fight for all she believes in. Survival becomes paramount to endure an ill-conceived war in treacherous Outremer and to sail a dangerous voyage home. Coming ashore in Antioch after horrific losses where only one in twenty survives, Eleanor must overcome despair. Meanwhile, Louis, who has lost most of his army, tours holy shrines. A barge sent by King Raymond invites her to sail up the Orontes river in honor. Her court urges her forward to discover the exotic ways of a rich desert culture. Louis and Eleanor come into a dramatic confrontation over the crusade mission, but actions far deeper are taking place by forces that have called the holy war. This begins a layered world as complex as Eleanor, where armed political struggle, divisive religion, medieval ignorance, and passions compound. Eleanor, driven forward by a holy quest, finds it is everything else that matters. Through novice eyes, she experiences beauty and cruelty. Her court of chevaliers meet the exotic women of Outremer. A troubadour prince learns the music that drives the people of the desert yet must battle for his life against the same people. We see both sides of the enormous battle fought over Damascus. Eleanor meets the sister-queens who operate the holy lands. She learns what it takes to be a Queen and use her court to full advantage. In spite of fears for safety and facing real and immediate danger, she struggles in a holy war with an all-knowing church and an unknowing King, a perfect storm for making infallibly horrific decisions. Ultimately, she understands the forces that both call and divide the Second Crusade. Eleanor will head home as a wholly different person, changed forever. It is an amazing voyage and a thrilling adventure of one of the greatest queens you never knew. -- In development fourteen years and based on the latest scholarly research, these stories significantly update earlier historical fictions. Discover how she will become one of the most powerful and enigmatic women of the middle ages as she develops her own Eleanor Code. Born Alienor d Aquitaine in 1124, died in 1204, she twice becomes a queen, once for France with King Louis 7th, then for England with King Henri 2nd. This edition is November 22 2017. About this Item: BookThug, Toronto, 2007. Perfect bound into Wrappers. Condition: New. Limited Edition. The Basho Variations gathers thirty-four translations of Basho’s famous haiku. In doing so it enters an august (albeit scanty) lineage of maverick redactions of this poem that include (as inaugural) the ‘frog pond plop’ by Dom Sylvester Huédard and the ‘fog prondl pop’ by bp Nichol. Inspired by Raymond Queneau’s Exercises in Style, it also joins the company of his earlier ‘Restricted Translation with Imperfect Level Shift (After Basho)’ as well as the Frogments from the Frag Pool: Haiku after Basho by fellow ludicians de langage Gary Barwin and Derek Beaulieu; Beaulieu’s solo ((plop)) and Basho’s Frogger (a Zen video game) created by the Prize Budget for Boys. About this Item: Society of Biblical Literature. Paperback. Condition: New. 132 pages. Dimensions: 8.8in. x 5.8in. x 0.4in.The last fifty years have seen a dramatic increase of interest in the wisdom literature of the Bible, as scholars have come to appreciate the subtlety and originality of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes as well as of Sirach and Wisdom of Solomon. Interest has likewise grown in the wisdom literatures of the neighboring cultures of Canaan, Egypt, and especially Mesopotamia. To help readers understand the place of biblical wisdom within this broader context, including its originality and distinctiveness, this volume offers a rich collection of essays by distinguished Assyriologists and biblicists on the social, intellectual, and literary setting of Mesopotamian wisdom; on specific wisdom texts; and on key themes common to both Mesopotamian and biblical culture. Scholars, pastors, and laity will find these essays both fascinating and enriching. Contributors to the volume include Paul-Alain Beaulieu, Richard J. Clifford, James L. Crenshaw, Edward Greenstein, Victor Avigdor Hurowitz, Karel van der Toorn, and Raymond C. Van Leeuwen. This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN. About this Item: Gollancz Orion Publishing Group Okt 2017, 2017. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Çeda, an elite warrior in service to the kings of Sharakhai, is learning their secrets even as they send her on covert missions to further their rule. She has already uncovered the dark history of the asirim, but it's only when she bonds with them, chaining them to her will, that she feels their pain as her own. They hunger for release, they demand it, but their chains were forged by the gods themselves and are proving unbreakable. Çeda could become the champion the enslaved asirim have been waiting for, but the need to tread carefully has never been greater. The kings are hungry for blood, scouring the city in a ruthless quest for revenge, while Çeda's friend Emre and his new allies in the Moonless Host are laying plans to take advantage of the unrest in Sharakhai, and strike a major blow against the kings and their god-given powers. The shifting tides of power are fickle and dangerous, though. The Kings and the Moonless Host have their own agendas, as does the dangerous blood mage Hamzakiir, whose plotting uncovers a devastating secret that could shatter the power of the hated kings. But it may all be undone if Çeda cannot learn to control the growing anger of the asirim that threatens to overwhelm her. 688 pp. Englisch. Seller Inventory # 9781473203051
