(Some may not be mentioned in the booklet.) This booklet is a goldmine of information for genealogy seekers, as it is filled with biographies of persons who lived in the county in the 1890s, often giving the names of parents, spouse, in-laws, children, siblings, etc., as well as military service, politics, residence and occupation. Besides the biographies, there are three sections of names: a long list of past residents the author recalls, just about anyone connected with pre-1895 Hancock Lodge #101 F. and A.M., and finally early residents who are "Gone but Not Forgotten." The history of the county is found in bits and pieces within the biographies. In the brief WPA section the county's early claims to fame are noted: Greenfield is the birthplace of the poet James Whitcomb Riley and Joseph Chapman, a Greenfield politician, was influential in the presidential campaign of 1840.
