Non c e limite, in queste pagine che a tratti sconfinano nella poesia, alla volonta di scendere nei pozzi piu oscuri dell animo umano, cosi come di salire verso le vette della felicita di esistere. Olmeda, pagina dopo pagina, cammina in equilibro sull asta della scrittura, senza paura dell abisso di melodramma verso cui potrebbe cadere. Il protagonista attraversa lo Stretto e arriva alla meta percorrendo una specie di cerchio, dove il senso del viaggio e il percorso e l arrivo e solo apparentemente uguale alla partenza. Ma qual e il senso di questo percorso? La trama si apre verso molteplici interpretazioni: e un viaggio personale per dimenticare una donna e vivere una nuova vita? Oppure rappresenta il viaggio di tutti gli uomini dalla nascita verso la morte? La donna del racconto rappresenta una donna reale o e il simbolo di cio che la vita ci impedisce di raggiungere? Come in tutte le opere letterarie che riescono a suscitare un interesse i significati si raddoppiano e si moltiplicano senza fine. La particolarita strutturale del racconto e l utilizzo della tecnica del flash-back insieme a quella del flash-forward (resa celebre da una recente serie televisiva e da un noto romanzo di Philip Dick). Il protagonista ad un certo punto ricordera il passato cosi come ricordera il futuro, anzi vedra di fronte a se l albero infinito del possibile. Non e una tecnica nuova, ma qui viene applicata in modo inedito ad un opera dal chiaro contenuto letterario e non di evasione. Sorprendente infine e la capacita di Olmeda di portare avanti la trama con continui colpi di scena, nonostante la profondita della scrittura. Cosi come ne La Bellezza e la Bestia ogni piccolo capitolo e una sorpresa, fino alla studiata ambiguita del finale. Mentre leggerete questo libro sarete li anche voi su quella barca che sta attraversando il mare in un percorso che e del protagonista, dell autore e anche di voi stessi. Per ognuno il viaggio sara un viaggio diverso. Ci fermiamo qui per non togliere al lettore il piacere della scoperta. Buona lettura! Dal capitolo 12: . .Con il passare dei minuti la velocita della voga aumentava con regolarita, la barca che fendeva l acqua non piu a strappi ma con un movimento quasi regolare, senza alcuna deviazione, perfettamente dritta nella sua traiettoria. Se qualcuno avesse potuto vederlo dall alto, avrebbe visto un immensa distesa di buio senza apparenti confini attraverso la quale un ombra appena piu chiara, una minuscola mosca sul punto di annegare, un granello di luce lieve, un escrescenza improbabile, procedeva diritta lasciando una leggerissima scia bianca dietro di se. Il silenzio attorno era totale. Solo il pensiero esisteva, come tante piccole luci che si accendevano e si spegnevano nell assoluta solitudine. Dal capitolo 18, una parte di un flash-forward: . .La morte scese, dolce come la primavera dell infanzia, un lieve accenno di sorriso a un angolo della bocca, timida, pietosa come mai era stata una madre, lo strinse a se calda come zucchero, gli sussurro parole inudibili dietro l orecchio che lo fecero rabbrividire come mai un amante aveva mai fatto. Lo strinse cosi forte che divento lui stesso, B. ricambio la stretta cosi disperatamente che divenne lei stessa, il due divento uno, l amore impossibile divento vero, ed amaro come il frutto delizioso della conoscenza. Herbal obéit malgré lui et laisse le crayon écrire la chronique d'une passion inoubliable qui amènera les deux protagonistes à passer par les prisons, les trains de la mort et les camps d'internement.
