About this Item: Harvard Univerity Press, 1966. Condition: Gut. XIII; 573 S.; 28 Tafelseiten und XXIII; 334 Tafelseiten m. Illustr.; 4°. Gute Exemplare; Umschläge etwas berieben. - Englisch. - 2 BÄNDE. // Erwin Panofsky, Professor of Art and Archaeology in the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, shares his learning with the public in a book which it is a pleasure to read. Beginning with the "pre-Eyckian" painters and book illuminators, particularly the somewhat neglected representatives of what may be called the regional schools, he traces the development of Netherlandish painting through the Master of Flemalle, Jan and Hubert van Eyck, and Roger van der Weyden to the beginning of the 16th century. He shows the relationship of the four great artists to their predecessors and to each other, points out how their heritage was used and enriched by their successors, and determines the place of this school in the general context of art history. By combining iconographic interpretation with an analysis of style, he has achieved the most complete presentation ever attempted. Copious notes and a detailed bibliography will be of value to the specialist. The beautiful plates, many of them never before available, give a complete view of the total output of the four important painters of the period as well as representative illustration of the other works covered. "Easily the most brilliant among living historians of art, Erwin Panofsky has yet another distinction, of greatest rarity among scholars - he writes beautifully. 'Early Netherlandish Painting,' his finest work in some forty years of extraordinary production, must be reckoned a masterpiece." - Harry Bober, Saturday Review. About this Item: Its origins and character. 2 Volumes. Volume One: Texts, Volume Two: Plates. Harvard University Press. Cambridge. Massachusetts. 1953. De 31x24 cm. Com XIII, 573, [xxviii], XXIV, 334 págs. Encadernação do editor em tela. Primeiro volume ilustrado a p/b em extra texto sob papael couchê. Segundo volume profusmente ilustrado a p/b sob papel couchê. Location/localizacao: FR-1-E-15. Seller Inventory # 1604IA007
