About this Item: 2000. Hardcover. Condition: New. 222 Bill Gates of Microsoft identified tourism as one of the three major industries of the future. With the projected arrival of 1.6 billion tourists by 2020 generating tourist receipt of US $ 2000 billion, creating one job every 2.5 seconds, tourism, today, has emerged as one of biggest industries of the future. India offers, as is often said, the ‘World in one place’-with tremendous variety that provides everyone. What is the present scenario of tourism development in India? What is India’s position in the global scenario? How is India prepared to participate in the great tourism boom of the 21st century? The book "INDIAN TOURISM BEYOND THE MILLENNIUM" by a person, who has an inside view of the development of tourism in India, delves into these and many other pertinent questions. As India prepares to enter the new millennium, the book traces the history of tourism development in India, the constraints that limit its growth and the issues that may fashion the future. About this Item: Oxford University Press, United Kingdom, 2015. Paperback. Condition: New. 2nd Revised edition. Language: English . Brand New Book. Despite not having been used in anger since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the atomic bomb is still the biggest threat that faces us in the 21st century. As Bill Clinton s first secretary of defence, Les Aspin, aptly put it: The Cold War is over, the Soviet Union is no more. But the post-Cold War world is decidedly not post-nuclear . For all the effort to reduce nuclear stockpiles to zero, it seems that the bomb is here to stay. This Very Short Introduction reveals why. The history and politics of the bomb are explained: from the technology of nuclear weapons, to the revolutionary implications of the H-bomb, and the politics of nuclear deterrence. The issues are set against a backdrop of the changing international landscape, from the early days of development through the Cold War. In this new edition, Joseph M. Siracusa includes a new concluding chapter, moving away from the emphasis of nuclear weapons in the age of terrorism , to the significant lessons to be learnt from the history of the nuclear weapons era. Siracusa shows that because 21st century nuclear proliferation has deep roots in the past, an understanding of the lessons of this nuclear history is paramount for future global policies to be successful. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable. Seller Inventory # AOP9780198727231

About this Item: Oxford University Press Inc, United States, 2007. Paperback. Condition: New. 30th Anniversary ed.. Language: English . Brand New Book. In this remarkable work, Terry Alford tells the story of Abd al Rahman Ibrahima, a Muslim slave who, in 1807, was recognized by an Irish ship s surgeon as the son of an African king who had saved his life many years earlier. The Prince, as he had become known to local Natchez, Mississippi residents, had been captured in war when he was 26 years old, sold to slave traders, and shipped to America. Slave though he was, Ibrahima was an educated, aristocratic man, and he was made overseer of the large cotton and tobacco plantation of his master, who refused to sell him to the doctor for any price. After years of petitioning by Dr. Cox and others, Ibrahima finally gained freedom in 1828 through the intercession of U.S. Secretary of State Henry Clay. Sixty-six years old, Ibrahima sailed for Africa the following year, with his wife, and died there of fever just five months after his arrival. The year 2007 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of Prince Among Slaves, the only full account of Ibrahima s life, pieced together from first-person accounts and historical documents gathered on three continents. It is not only a remarkable story, but also the story of a remarkable man, who endured the humiliation of slavery without ever losing his dignity or his hope for freedom. This thirtieth anniversary edition, which will be released to coincide with a major documentary being aired on Ibrahima s life, has been updated to include material discovered since the original printing, a fuller presentation and appreciation of other African Muslims in American slavery-Ibrahima s contemporaries-and a review of new and important literature and developments in the field. About this Item: Dodo Press, United Kingdom, 2009. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.John Morley, 1st Viscount Morley of Blackburn, OM, PC (1838-1923) was a British Liberal statesman, writer and newspaper editor. He was educated at Cheltenham College, University College School and Lincoln College, Oxford. He quarrelled with his father over religion, and had to leave Oxford early without an honours degree. His father had wanted him to become a clergyman. He wrote, in obvious allusion to this rift in On Compromise (1874). He was called to the bar before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. He was the editor of the Fortnightly Review from 1867 to 1882 and of the Pall Mall Gazette from 1880-83 before going into politics. In 1885 he was made Chief Secretary for Ireland. Morley s great speech at Manchester, in 1899 raises him to a special level amongst masters of English rhetoric. His other works include: Studies in Literature (1891), Indian Speeches (1907-1909) (1909), Politics and History (1914) and Recollections (1917). Seller Inventory # AAV9781409959656

About this Item: Oxford University Press, United Kingdom, 2011. Paperback. Condition: New. New. Language: English . Brand New Book. She liked lies.To lie readily and cleverly, recklessly and yet successfully, was, according to the lessons which she had learned, a necessity in a woman Lizzie Eustace is young, beautiful, and widowed. Her determination to hold on to the Eustace family s diamond necklace in the face of legal harassment by her brother-in-law s solicitor entangles her in a series of crimes - apparent and real - and contrived love-affairs. Her cousin Frank, Tory MP and struggling barrister, loyally assists her, to the distress of his fiancee, Lucy Morris. A pompous Under-Secretary of State, an exploitative and acquisitive American and her unhappy niece, a shady radical peer, and a brutal aristocrat are only some of the characters in this, one of Trollope s most engaging novels: part sensation fiction, part detective story, part political satire, and part ironic romance. The Eustace Diamonds (1873) belongs to Trollope s Palliser series. Though often considered the least political of the six novels, it is a highly revealing study of Victorian Britain, its colonial activities in Ireland and India, its veneration of wealth, and its pervasive dishonesty. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World s Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford s commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more. About this Item: Oxford University Press, United Kingdom, 2013. Paperback. Condition: New. 2nd Revised edition. Language: English . Brand New Book. The need to understand China has never been more pressing. Within one generation, the global giant has transformed from an impoverished, repressive state into an economic and political powerhouse; yet conflicting impressions of the country and its leaders abound. In the fully revised and updated second edition of China in the 21st Century: What Everyone Needs to Know, China expert Jeffrey Wasserstrom provides cogent answers to the most urgent questions regarding the superpower, and offers a framework for understanding its meteoric rise. Focusing his answers through the historical legacies-Western and Japanese imperialism, the Mao era, and the massacre near Tiananmen Square-that largely define China s present-day trajectory, Wasserstrom introduces readers to the Chinese Communist Party, the building boom in Shanghai, and the environmental fall-out of rapid Chinese industrialization. He also explains unique aspects of Chinese culture such as the one-child policy, and provides insight into how Chinese view Americans. Wasserstrom reveals that China today shares many traits with other industrialized nations during their periods of development, in particular the United States during its rapid industrialization in the 19th century. He provides guidance on the ways we can expect China to act in the future vis-a-vis the United States, Russia, India, and its East Asian neighbors. The second edition has also been updated to take into account changes China has seen in just the past two years, from the global economic shifts to the recent removal of Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai from power. Concise and insightful, China in the 21st Century provides an excellent introduction to this significant global power. Seller Inventory # AOP9780199974962

About this Item: Oxford University Press, United Kingdom, 2008. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. A nation without a national government is an awful spectacle. In the winter of 1787-8 a series of eighty-five essays appeared in the New York press; the purpose of the essays was to persuade the citizens of New York State to ratify the Constitution of the United States. The three authors - Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay - were respectively the first Secretary of the Treasury, the fourth President, and the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in American history. Each had played a crucial role in the events of the American Revolution; together they were convinced of the need to weld thirteen disparate and newly-independent states into a union. Their essays make the case for a new and united nation, governed under a written Constitution that endures to this day. The Federalist Papers are an indispensable guide to the intentions of the founding fathers who created the United States, and a canonical text in the development of western political thought. This new edition pays full attention to the classical learning of their authors and the historical examples they deploy. About this Item: Yale University Press, United States, 2002. Paperback. Condition: New. Revised ed.. Language: English . Brand New Book. This book tells a true detective story set mainly in Elizabethan London during the years of cold war just before the Armada of 1588. The mystery is the identity of a spy working in a foreign embassy to frustrate Catholic conspiracy and propaganda aimed at the overthrow of Queen Elizabeth and her government. The suspects in the case are the inmates of the house, an old building in the warren of streets and gardens between Fleet Street and the Thames. These include the ambassador, a civilized Frenchman, his wife, his daughter, his secretary, his clerk and his priest, the tutor, the chef, the butler, and the concierge. They also include a runaway friar, the Neapolitan philosopher, poet, and comedian Giordano Bruno, who wrote masterpieces of Italian literature, who was later burned in Rome for his anti-papal opinions, and who has been revered in Italy for his honorable and heroic resistance to papal authority. Others in the cast are Queen Elizabeth, her formidable secretary of state Sir Francis Walsingham, and King Henry III of France; poets, courtiers, and scholars; statesmen, conspirators, go-betweens, and stool-pigeons. When not in London, the action takes place in Paris and Oxford; a good deal of it happens on the river Thames. The hero or villain, who calls himself Fagot, does his work most effectively, is not found out, and disappears. In the first part of the book these events are narrated. In the second the spy is identified and his story put together. John Bossy s brilliant research, backed by his forensic and literary skills, solves a centuries-old mystery. His book makes a major contribution to the political and intellectual history of the wars of religion in Europe and to the domestic history of Elizabethan England. Not least, it is compelling reading. Seller Inventory # AAH9780300094510
