About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. This is an true life account of the situation of Iran after the 1953 overthrow of Iran s democracy by Richard Helms and Kermit Roosevelt in 1953 to get the right for American and British oil and Shell to exploit Iran s oil. James is the central character of the historical novel, went to Iran in 1988 and worked in Khuzestan just 15 miles from the Iraq border where there had been an overthrow of the monarchy by Iraq s military and the Communists in Iraq went on a binge of cutting off the heads of foreigners staying in Bagdad hotels and hanging their naked bodies from lamp posts. This was to frighten the military to leave the Communists alone. It was James friend, Cryus Zafar, who got him a job with a British company, John Bean, and in Khuzestan he works with a British Surveryor, Dickie Swells. He takes off for Christmas in Germany to see a beautiful German girl, Renata, who he met on the boat going from New York to France. Coming back to his job, Dickie has replaced him with another surveyor but is hired by the American company that had sublet part of their contract to John Bean. They had hired an Italian engineer who had been working in Bagdad and ran away to Iran to escape the murdering Communists of Iraq. The author did two engineering studies to save one million in construction costs but as he wasn t an engineer, the top engineer puts his name on the report and uses the calculations and map work done by the author. As the project closes down, he heads for Tehran to see what Cyrus Zafar can do. It so happens that his brother, Reza, working in highway construction is forming his own company and it takes off after the first contract to become the largest construction company in Iran. Cyrus, however, is offered a post in the Iranian Embassy in Pakistan and this is the start of his diplomatic career that he has always wanted. So there is a separation again. But on a break in highway construction, he takes off for Pakistan to see Cyrus and is introduced to Abdullah of Yemen, Prince Arif, and Zarin Khan who Cyrus wife knew in London. He is smitten by her intelligence and as she works with Pakistan s airlines and comes to Tehran on various flights, he give her his telephone and hopes to meet her soon in Tehran. Six months later, she calls and after many months of her trips to Tehran, he proposes marriage and for the first time in his life, James is deeply in love. Good things do not last and in her pregnancy, Zarin contracts leukemia but a beautiful little girl, Fawzia, is born. She is named after the beautiful Princess Fawzia of Egypt who was the first wife of the Young Shah. Hopefully a cure for leukemia to save Zarin will come but it didn t. James agrees to let Zarin s grandfather Shirali, take Fawzia to Pakistan to be reared among Zarin s brothers and sisters. His grief was beyond description as he lost both loves of his life. Plunging into work, James tries to renew his life and gets an invitation from Abdullah to go to Mecca where says prayers for Zarin. Cyrus asks Reza to find land in Golhak and build a villa for him and after his assignment in Pakistan is finished, James is invited to a dinner in the newly built villa where he meets Ming Toy, a friend of Cyrus s wife, Roxanne. There they learn about Nixon s plan to build Iran into a base for America and recognize Beijing as China in the UN. As Iran becomes the third most powerful military the rise in the price of oil has led to a glut in the market and the CIA pushes the Shah to cut production to keep the price of oil up. He replies that he needs to keep money coming in to make economic development as the situation is becoming dangerous. The Shah is ill with leukemia. The queen has him treated by French doctors to keep his condition secret. Imam Khomeni was made an Ayatollah to protect him but lacked the real knowledge of Islam to be one. The Shah abdicates and Khomeni arrives in Iran and the Mossad and CIA star. Seller Inventory # APC9781542862738

About this Item: Donald M. Grant, West Kingston, Rhode Island, 1973. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust jacket included. First edition. West Kingston, Rhode Island: Donald M. Grant, 1973. First Edition. Near Fine hardcover in edge-worn pictorial dustwrapper. Limited Edition of 1,000 copies. Full color frontispiece plus interior black and white illustrations by Canadian artist Richard Robertson. This was the first (and only) book publication of the 1921 novel from "Adventure Magazine." In the manner of Talbot Mundy or Harold Lamb, an orientalist fantastic adventure of the unknown interior of Asia, and a lost city of the Khans ruled by a telepathic maniac. The lore surrounding this novel is as interesting as the novel itself. Dr. William C. Robertson, born in Glasgow, co-wrote four novels with Bedford-Jones, all for "Adventure." Robertson, an actual adventurer akin to the characters of the tale, alleged that the mysterious Temple of the Ten and the City of Whirling Sands, were places that actually existed, and which he had seen (according to the anonymous introduction possibly by Donald Grant). About this Item: Daya Publishing House, 2006. Hardcover. Condition: New. Some 65 of the known 92 elements are metallic in nature. The term \`metal\` designates an element that is a good conductor of electricity whose electrical resistance is directly proportion to absolute 0T. In addition, metals share some distinctive characteristics such as high thermal conductivity and high density. Metallic elements are intrinsic components of the environment. Some 19 heavy metals of the known 65 metals are toxic in nature and cause a great threat to the living as well as non-living world, and so man is no exception.;Actually toxic heavy metals are present at <0.1% levels in the earth\`s crust but anthropogenic activities such as smelting and mining of ores, releasing industrial wastes, use of metallic compounds in industries and in the production of vehicles and aeroplanes have released a large number of toxic metals and their salts into th environment. So, dispersion of heavy metals in environment has become a most challenging problem. If proper management and mass awakening right from grass root level to top policy makers have not been considered inevitable within time, no force on this earth can check the propagation of carcinogenic characters of the heavy metals. This book will be helpful in solving the crux of heavy metal pollution; as it is compilation of most advanced research articles of the scientists of repute in the concerned field. About this Item: Dattsons Publishers, 2015. Hardcover. Condition: As New. The family Cyperaceae (commonly known as sedge family) is taxonomically one of the most intricate families. It is represented by about 70 -80 genera and about 4000 species distributed throughout the world. India represents 28 genera and 500 species while the study regions are represented by about 16 genera and about 322 species and 84 infraspecific taxa. The studies in Cyperaceae did not progress well as compared to those in grasses and is neglected throughout the world and more so in India. All these 400 taxa are dealt with in present work which serves two fold purpose viz. primarily it provides the first hand information with regards to diversity, and availability of taxa in study regions and secondly provides tools for easy identification of sedges so that even beginners will feel comfortable with studies of the family. The first hand information provided in the book is hoped instrumental for further research in experimental taxonomy of family including biosystematic studies, revisionary and monographic studies at generic level, ultimately leading to encyclopaedic knowledge of the sedges of the regions. It needs to be mentioned here that this is the second comprehensive floristic account of Cyperaceae being published after about 130 years of the publication of first well known treatise by C. B. Clarke in 1893 - 94 in FBI. Obviously this second account much improved, relevant information accumulated over the extensive period is meticulously dealt with in present work. The book provides certain user friendly topics and subtopics such as illustrated glossary of macro and micro morphological characters and their role in sedge taxonomy, generic, specific and infra specific delimitation of taxa, polymorphism, species complexes and ecological grouping etc. Every genus is provided with critical and comparative notes to understand generic and specific delimitation and circumscription. The multicharacter keys for the identification of genera, specific and infraspecific taxa are the strong point in the book as these facilitate even to beginner to come to correct identification of taxa in general and the study regions in particular. Many new diagnostic parameters have been added to make keys more effective. The infraspecific taxa of all species which in most cases are based on type studies, are updated by the addition of foot-notes to clear out intricacy or ambiguities in the nomenclature as well as in specific and infraspecific delimitation. The account of book also includes about 80 very good quality illustrations with all necessary details and about 150 plates of photographs of habit, inflorescence and floral parts. It also provides account of 33 new taxa which includes 14 new species, one new genus Naikia W. Khan, Bhuskute & Kahalkar, a new sec. Linearies W.Khan et al (under the genus Fimbristylis) and a new record of the genus Lepironia (l.c.) Rich from Kerala state (by P. K. Shaji et al, 2009 TBGIR) which is significant contribution and enriches the text and value of the book. This compilation of comprehensive and of up to date knowledge of sedge diversity from aquatic and semi aquatic habitat of inland and coastal plains as well as different forest types of 5 state of Peninsular India is based on original research work. It is hoped that this book will be considered as milestone in taxonomic work and will be well received and appreciated in the Botanical world. Seller Inventory # 113489

About this Item: Alston Rivers, U.K., 1907. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition. Signed by Author. Stace Henry [Edited By]. In the Dominions of the Great Mogul. Signed by Author - Inscription on front endpaper reads 'M Estaugh from H. W. Stace August 1911' ix, 340 pages and a 19 page catalogue to the rear. "Count" O'Connor was an Irish gentleman of high lineage whom a fickle destiny led to Agra and to the Court of the Great Mogul, Aurungzebe. What befel him there is narrated in these memoirs, which are of so amazing a nature that the publisher is constrained to publish them in the form of a novel. But the story is not only marvellous, it is well-written and signally amusing '. INTRODUCTION. The present volume contains only a portion of the Memoirs which the famous Count 0'Connor left behind him for publication. Since it does not include the history of the first part of his wanderings, wherein he gives an account of his parentage, it is necessary to state briefly who he was, and how it chances that his Memoirs are only now given to the public, two hundred years after they were written. Nicholas 0'Connor was born in the year 1635, the only son of a worthy gentleman of Connaught, more remarkable for ancient lineage than for the extent or value of his property. This good man died when the future Count was only ten years old. The lad left his home at an early age, and at twenty-one he had already engaged in several campaigns, and gained some distinction. During the next fifteen years he wandered all over Europe, offering his sword and his services to anyone who would hire them. From the constant references to his name which appear in contemporary records, it seems that he became a very well-known figure at most of the minor Courts; though, if he had a reputation for bravery, it is clear that his weaknesses, of which he was quite unconscious, were equally notorious. He was in his thirty-fourth year when he started on that remarkable journey to the East which forms the subject of the present volume. CONTENTS Introduction; I Go to The Indies, Become A Physician, And Perform Three Miraculous Cures; II. I Suffer A Disappointment, And Discover That I Have Made Two Enemies. Sabashnikov, 1924. 16mo, pp. 72, [6], plus final blank; private ownership stamp to front cover, title and a couple of other pages, otherwise a good copy, uncut in the original printed wrappers, soiled but sound.First edition: one of Leonov's early stories, the tragic, sometimes savage tale of a Tartar khan who shares in the victory over the Russians at Kalka (1224, the first invasion of Russia by the Mongol hordes), only to lose his beloved Ytmar, the doomed warrior daughter of Genghiz Khan. The narrative is notable for its exotic style, larded with Tartar words and phrases.'The striking stylistic qualities of [Leonov's earliest stories] attracted general attention. They certainly indicated that their young author owed a great deal to Leskov, Remizov, Bely, and Zamyatin, but they showed too, that he had his own approach to literary material. The opulence of his language, which was studded with flowery epithets and involved metaphors, was matched by the emotional complexity of his chief characters' (Slonim, Soviet Russian Literature, p. 194).
