About this Item: Thomas Dunne Books, St. Martin's Press, New York, NY, 2009. Hardcover. Glued binding. Cloth over boards. [10], 501 p. Illustrations. Notes. Index. As a hired gun strategist, Greenberg-a seasoned pollster and political consultant-has seen it all. In his memoir, he recounts his work with President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Bolivian president Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, and South African president Nelson Mandela. Through his experiences aiding the leaders in pushing their visions for better and clearer domestic and international policies, Greenberg offers an insightful examination of leadership, democracy, and the bridge between candidate and constituency. This captivating tale of political battlegrounds provides an inside look at some of the greatest international leaders of our time from the man who stood directly beside them. From Wikipedia: "Stanley Bernard "Stan" Greenberg (born May 10, 1945) is a leading Democratic pollster and political strategist who has advised the campaigns of Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and John Kerry, as well as hundreds of other candidates and organizations in the United States and around the world, including the former Bundeskanzler (Chancellor of Germany) Gerhard Schröder and the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Michael Häupl and the Austrian SPÖ. A political scientist who received his Bachelor's Degree from Miami University and his Ph.D. from Harvard, Greenberg spent a decade teaching at Yale University before becoming a political consultant. His 1985 study of Reagan Democrats in Macomb County, Michigan became a classic of progressive political strategy, and the basis for his continuing argument that Democrats must actively work to present themselves as populists advocating the expansion of opportunity for the middle class. As the pollster for Clinton in 1992, Greenberg was a major figure in the famed campaign "war room" (and hence the documentary film of the same name). He is the CEO of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a polling and consulting firm, and co-founder (with James Carville and Bob Shrum) of Democracy Corps, a non-profit organization which produces left-leaning political strategy. He is married to Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, who currently represents Connecticut's 3rd congressional district. Financial disclosures filed in Congress indicate the couple are multimillionaires. He is a regular contributor with James Carville to the weekly Carville-Greenberg Memo at The National Memo website. During his work for the Austrian SPO Greenberg was heavily criticized and derided by FPO leader Jörg Haider. Greenberg's current and former corporate clients include British Petroleum, British Airways, Monsanto Company and General Motors. In May 2010 Greenberg was linked to a controversy involving White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. While Greenberg was consulting for BP, he provided free rent to Emanuel. Greenberg's efforts "rebranded" BP as a "green company", which critics deemed "greenwashing." Very good in very good dust jacket. Signed by author. Inscription signed on fep. DJ has slight wear and soiling. First edition. First edition [stated]. First printing [stated]. Seller Inventory # 67996

About this Item: Twentieth Century Fox, Los Angeles, 1969. Revised First Draft script for the 1970 film. "Art" in holograph pencil on the front wrapper, and a few holograph notations in ink on page 2 noting various scene props, leads us to believe this belonged to a member of the film's art department, Dennis J. Parrish being the property master. Brief holograph notations in pencil and ink throughout. Laid in are several pages of revisions, beginning with page 137, and a notice "to all secretaries" to add said revisions, dated October 3, 1969. Also included are four vintage black-and-white reference photographs from the film.Based on Sackler's 1968 Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, and New York Drama Critics' Circle Award-winning play, a fictionalized account of the life of boxing champion Jack Johnson. James Earl Jones (his first starring role) and Jane Alexander (her first film credit and starring role) were both nominated for Oscars, reprising their lead roles from the Broadway production.Jack Johnson (1878-1946) boxed during heavy segregation in the American South, and rose to Heavyweight Champion of the World during the Jim Crow era. The white population was angered by Johnson's victories and his open relationships with white women, thus causing the United States Congress to pass a law in 1912 making it illegal to transport prizefight films across state lines, intending to curtail race riots. "The great white hope" is a reference to the boxer whom whites hoped would finally defeat Johnson. Shot on location in England, Arizona, and California. Blue studio wrappers, noted as REVISED FIRST DRAFT on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 196, dated May 12, 1969. Title page present, dated May 12, 1969, noted as REVISED FIRST DRAFT, with credits for screenwriter Howard Sackler. Script: 156 leaves, last leaf of text numbered 155, eye-rest green stock, mimeograph. Laid-in revisions dated October 3, 1969: 16 leaves (1 yellow "notice" page, 15 eye-rest green stock), mimeograph. The catalogue for 'Freeze'. 'Freeze' was the title of an art exhibition organised by Damien Hirst with other students from Goldsmiths College in July 1988 in an empty London Port Authority building at Surrey Docks in London Docklands. Although it has often been described as being in a warehouse, the exhibition was actually housed in an administration block. 'Freeze' was conceived originally as a group effort, but during the preparation Damien Hirst, who was still only in his second year at college (the same year as Angus Fairhurst) and had more time on his hands, emerged as the main organiser. Hirst and his collaborators consciously imitated the look of Charles Saatchi's first gallery in St John's Wood that had opened a few years earlier. Saatchi, an early visitor to the show, was introduced to Hirst and was already looking to acquire contemporary art from promising, unknown artists; he purchased a piece by Matt Collishaw direct from the exhibition. Goldsmiths lecturer Michael Craig-Martin used his influence in the London art world to get Norman Rosenthal and Nicholas Serota to visit the exhibition. Freeze is now seen as the seminal event for the group of artists later to be identified as the Young British Artists (YBAs), but a good number of artists later seen as YBAs were not at Goldsmiths and were not in the show. Furthermore, some of the artists in Freeze were not acknowledged in the later pantheon of the YBAs. The catalogue for Freeze had surprisingly high production values for a student exhibition. It was designed by Tony Arefin and includes an essay by art critic Ian Jeffrey. The catalogue was funded by the property developers Olympia and York, who had an interest in the Docklands area: Hirst had convinced them the project would have a strong community element. The title of the show came from the catalogue's description of Mat Collishaw's macro photograph Bullet Hole which showed a bullet striking a human head - 'dedicated to a moment of impact, a preserved now, a freeze-frame'.
