About this Item: Poorhouse Press,, Florida, 1987. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Poorhouse Press, Florida, 1987, 3rd printing. Large(11 by 9 inch) Paperback. Signed and inscribed by the incomparable innovator and comic(s) genius Will Eisner to 'Sy and Carrey' who are in some way connected to Billy Frolick from whose house I found this book. Billy Frolick had a few other books in his home that were inscribed to Sy and Carrey. Perhaps they are his parents or friends of his. I wasn't able to find out. As i've mentioned on other listings of signed books from his home, Billy Frolick is an American film writer and director(here's a snippet from Wikipedia---- Frolick's directing debut, It is What it Is, a full-length feature from his original screenplay, stars Jonathan Silverman (Weekend at Bernie's) and featured Stephen Tobolowsky (Memento) and Joshua Malina (The West Wing). It is What it Is screened at several global festivals, including the 2003 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Best Picture, as well as prizes for Best Screenplay and Best Directorial Debut. The film's cultural significance was noted by William Safire in his March 5, 2006 New York Times Sunday Magazine column "On Language," entitled "It Is What It Is." "A burst of the sentence's activity," Safire wrote, "followed Billy Frolick's movie with that title in 2001.") No doubt a fan of Will Eisner, Frolick co-wrote the featured screenplays for Madagascar and for Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit among other movies. Very Good 11 by 9 inch Paperback. Extremely well-bound. The general impression is of a very nice-looking, well-taken care of book(zoom on the photos to judge for yourself). The covers look great. You can find 1) a spot or two of soiling, 2)a light crease, or ripple, running from top to bottom in the yellow margins next to the spine, 3)fading(yellow to pinkish) of the spine, 4)a ripple/crease near the top of the spine. The page edges have a few light spots of soiling. The interior of the book looks terrific as well. A few very light age spots on the signed FFEP. After that near-perfection (the one 1/8th inch spot of light soiling on the middle edge can be just seen on the margin edge of the affected pages). No other soiling, no marks, no writing, no tears, no creases. William Erwin "Will" Eisner (March 6, 1917 ¿ January 3, 2005) was an American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur. He was one of the earliest cartoonists to work in the American comic book industry, and his series The Spirit (1940¿1952) was noted for its experiments in content and form. In 1978, he popularized the term "graphic novel" with the publication of his book A Contract with God. He was an early contributor to formal comics studies with his book Comics and Sequential Art (1985). The Eisner Award was named in his honor, and is given to recognize achievements each year in the comics medium; he was one of the three inaugural inductees to the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame. Eisner has been recognized for his work with the National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Award for 1967, 1968, 1969, 1987 and 1988, as well as its Story Comic Book Award in 1979, and its Reuben Award in 1998. He was inducted into the Academy of Comic Book Arts Hall of Fame in 1971, and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1987. The following year, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were established in his honor. He received in 1975 the second Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême. With Jack Kirby, Robert Crumb, Harvey Kurtzman, Gary Panter, and Chris Ware, Eisner was among the artists honored in the exhibition "Masters of American Comics" at the Jewish Museum in New York City, from September 16, 2006 to January 28, 2007. On the 94th anniversary of Eisner's birth, in 2011, Google used an image featuring the Spirit as its logo. Inscribed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 000135

About this Item: Fantagraphics Books, Seattle, WA, 2014. Decorative Cloth in Jacket. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First Edition. 410pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Designed by Jacob Covey. "All from the mind-boggling collection of Glenn Bray, "The Blighted Eye" is the most copious, most diverse, and most lavish compilation of original comic art ever published. An enthusiast of marginal and outsider American pop culture, he started to collect original comic art in 1965 - a time when very few people, including the artists themselves, truly valued the original art. Bray has over the last nearly fifty years amassed likely the most eclectic collection of original comic art in private hands. The Blighted Eye presents not only a staggering array of original art, but a testament to Bray's dogged and visionary commitment to preserving the work by the greatest artists working in an art form habitually sneered at by cultural gatekeepers throughout most of the 20th Century. The book features work by a pantheon of cartooning masters, including Charles Addams, Carl Barks, Hans Bellmer, Charles Burns, Al Capp, Daniel Clowes, Jack Cole, Coop, R. Crumb, Jack Davis, Kim Deitch, Bill Elder, Al Feldstein, Virgil Finlay, Drew Friedman, Ernst Fuchs, Chester Gould, Justin Green, Rick Griffin, Bill Griffith, Matt Groening, Milt Gross, George Grosz, Rory Hayes, Jaime Hernandez, George Herriman, Alfred Hitchcock, Al Hirschfeld, Graham Ingels, Cameron Jamie, Bernard Krigstein, Harvey Kurtzman, Travis Louie, Jay Lynch, Don Martin, Gary Panter, Virgil Partch, Savage Pencil, Peter Pontiac, Charles Rodrigues, Spain Rodriguez, Doreen "Weird Wanda" Ross, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Bud Sagendorf, Charles Schulz, Jim Shaw, Gilbert Shelton, Joost Swarte, Stanislav Szukalski, Irving Tripp, Jeffrey Vallance, Chris Ware, Robert Williams, Karl Wills, Gahan Wilson, S. Clay Wilson, Basil Wolverton, Wallace Wood, Jim Woodring, Art Young, Bob Zoell, and - it should go without saying - many more. A brand new, pristine example of this extraordinarily sumptuous, massive compendium additionally INSCRIBED "De Blightedly! / Glenn Bray / Arcana 4/16/14" and "Get Blight with the Lard! / Doug H" by the authors in the year of publication in black ink on the title page. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.
