About this Item: Kalpaz Publications/Gyan Books Pvt Ltd, 2002. Hardcover. Condition: New. The papers presented in this book explain the Indian approach to Governance and Human Rights. Little literature is presently available which can explain the system of governance which enabled the Indian civilisation to survive for 5,000 years. This book makes a path-breaking contribution in the direction. It shows that there were many methods of checking the excesses of the government. One among such Measures was people`s resistance which has been formally established in the form of Adult franchise or democracy. It is shown that this is but one small subset of the total system of governance of the Indian civilisation. A plea is made to understand and incorporate of governance into the modern Democratic structure. The Movement for the protection of human rights has come to the fore after the perpetration of great atrocities upon the Jews by the Nazis during the Second World War. But such violations would have occurred throughout history. The second part of the book deals with the Indian approach to human rights. It is shown that performance of duties by one secures the rights of others. The Focus on rights detracts individuals from performing their duties. A plea is made for greater stress on duties than rights. Contents: Preface Introduction I. GOVERNANCE : 1. Statecraft in Ancient India/V.K. Hampiholi 2. About this Item: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. An experimental study has been carried out to observe the effect of density and moisture on property of cohesive (expansive) soil. At a constant grading of a soil its effect on strength, swelling pressure, permeability and CBR value has been undertaken, as soils are to be used for making road pavement, embankments, dams etc. In such case compaction of soil becomes very important. The stability of an embankment will greatly be influence by the shear parameters which are depend upon the degree of compaction. Similarly resistance to penetration, swelling pressure and permeability also depends upon the degree of compaction i.e. the density achieved at the site. In the present study the effect of varying the density and moisture has been studied to determine the properties of cohesive soil namely expansive black cotton soil. It has been concluded that by increasing the dry density, the undrained shear parameters (C ) are improved; CBR is increased while swelling pressure and permeability are decreased. By increasing the moisture content, the undrained shear parameters CBR have decreased while swelling pressure increased and permeability remain unaffected. Seller Inventory # KNV9786202019040

The government views JFM as a pivotal strategy for addressing the national policy goal of achieving 33% forest cover by 2012. JFM represents one model of community based forestry in which the state engages with communities with forestry. Though the current JFM model is weighted in favour of State Forest Department control over planning, management, investment, harvesting and marketing. This book is an attempt to understand the evolution and introduction of the JFM principles and concepts of JFM. The combine influence of historical, social, economic, cultural and ecological factors along-with policy impacts in people's participation in managing forest is illustrated by taking case of North West Himalayas. Over the past several decades, the focus in forestry has shifted towards forest protection and conservation and JFM represents a key policy thrusts in India. JFM is continued to be evolved as the experiences from different states across India are informing the process of JFM implementation so that policy and guidelines to improve the program are revised by the Central and State Governments regularly. The process approach is being followed so that forests are managed sustainably with people's involvement in forestry programmes to improve the livelihoods of forest dependent people's and reduced poverty. The studies have demonstrated that the potential economic benefits from improved forest productivity and policy reforms in favour of JFM are huge, both for people and government." (jacket).
