About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, 2016. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Excerpt: 1. It is indeed always worth while to portray the illustrious lives of the saints, that they may serve as a mirror and an example, and give, as it were, a relish to the life of men on earth. For by this means in some sort they live among us, even after death, and many of those who are dead while they live are challenged and recalled by them to true life. But now especially is there need for it because holiness is rare, and it is plain that our age is lacking in men. So greatly, in truth, do we perceive that lack to have increased in our day that none can doubt that we are smitten by that saying, Because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold; and, as I suppose, he has come or is at hand of whom it is written, Want shall go before his face. If I mistake not, Antichrist is he whom famine and sterility of all good both precedes and accompanies. Whether therefore it is the herald of one now present or the harbinger of one who shall come immediately, the want is evident. I speak not of the crowd, I speak not of the vile multitude of the children of this world: I would have you lift up your eyes upon the very pillars of the Church. Whom can you show me, even of the number of those who seem to be given for a light to the Gentiles, that in his lofty station is not rather a smoking wick than a blazing lamp? And, says One, if the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! Unless perchance, which I do not believe, you will say that they shine who suppose that gain is godliness; who in the Lord s inheritance seek not the things which are the Lord s, but rather their own. Why do I say their own? He would be perfect and holy, even while he seeks his own and retains his own, who should restrain his heart and hands from the things of others. But let him remember, who seems to himself to have advanced perhaps thus far, that the same degree of holiness is demanded even of a gentile. Are not soldiers bidden to be content with their wages that they may be saved? But it is a great thing for a doctor of the Church if he be as one of the soldiers; or, if, in truth (as the prophet speaks to their reproach), it be as with the people so with the priest. Hideous! Is it so indeed? Is he rightly to be esteemed highest who, falling from the highest rank can scarce cleave to the lowest, that he be not engulfed in the abyss? Yet how rare is even such a man among the clergy! Whom, likewise, do you give me who is content with necessaries, who despises superfluities? Yet the law has been enjoined beforehand by the Apostles on the successors of the Apostles, Having food and raiment, let us be therewith content. Where is this rule? We see it in books, but not in men. But you have [the saying] about the righteous man, that the law of his God is in his heart, not in a codex. Nor is that the standard of perfection. The perfect man is ready to forgo even necessaries. But that is beside the mark. Would that some limit were set on superfluous things! Would that our desires were not infinite! But what? Perhaps you might find one who can achieve this. It would indeed be difficult; but [if we find him] see what we have done. We were seeking for a very good man, a deliverer of many; and lo, we have labour to discover one who can save himself. The very good man to-day is one who is not utterly bad. 2. Wherefore, since the godly man has ceased from the earth, it seems to me that I do not employ myself to no purpose when I recall to our midst, from among those who were redeemed from the earth, Bishop Malachy, a man truly holy, and a man, too, of our own time, of singular wisdom and virtue. He was a burning and a shining light; and it has not been quenched, but only removed. Seller Inventory # APC9781530928019

Traveling on Your Own Traveling in Your Car Relationships Going Wrong No Means No To drink Or Not to Drink; That Is the Question Learning How to Fight Back How to Protect Yourself Against Grabs Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction I wrote this book to share what I have learned in gun handling and to give some idea, not only to women but also to men, of how a woman perceives this man-dominated gadget or equipment. I would say that 99 of women who know how to handle a gun or who are engaged in practical shooting as a sport, were influenced by a male in their lives whether it is the father, husband, brother, boyfriend, uncle or a male friend. Gun ownership, inarguably, is a man s world. But, it did not say that women cannot dip their fingers to it, if it is necessary, or even if she was just plain interested. In my case, the guilty party was my husband who suavely got my nod, first, for him to own a gun and later on, to join him on his shooting practice, tournaments and gun shows. I have to admit that in the beginning, I would cringe whenever I would see him working on his gun (and later on guns). I always have this thought that it will discharge accidentally and someone could get hurt. At that time, I could not even hold a gun. But then, gradually, I warmed up to it ---- I started holding the gun (no bullets, of course) until later on, my husband would be training me on how to hold it properly, how to get the right stance and eventually how to fire it. Believe it or not, within months, I was going with him on his practice shooting and tournaments. At first, I was the photographer and videographer. Eventually, I would be doing my own practice sessions and would join him on tournaments. Seller Inventory # APC9781505718928

THE PLAIN ENGLISH SOCIETY There can be no whitewash at the White House. (Richard Nixon). These nine words turned the American nation against their President. Why? About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. How To Speak English Like a Native The English language is perhaps the richest and most expressive in the world. One of the reasons for this is that we have so many weird and wonderful ways of describing exactly the same thing: we can be as colourful or as plain with our language as we choose. That is why it is so difficult to learn and how this book will help you so much. Living in a foreign country, as I do, it is obvious to me that even the most fluent of English speakers still have a lot to learn. As have the native English speakers. You try explaining to an educated Vietnamese or Thai how your friend became ADDLED and SOZZLED or BLOTTO and BEFUDDLED, and maybe MULLERED, PIE-EYED or BINGEING. What you say? What you mean? Why you say? All good questions. And all answered here. On the face of it the history of the English language is, at best, rather dull. It is certainly not easy to write an entertaining book on the subject and not make it read like a text book. Or so I thought. When I looked a little closer - and in a slightly different way from that of etymologists and scholars with minds far greater than mine - I discovered all sorts of fascinating tales that will help to explain why we use the words and phrases we do. Because, alongside the usual Latin-based words we picked up from the Romans and the words nicked from the Celts and Picts and other ancient Europeans, the English language has drawn its inspiration from some exceedingly odd places: clowns, facial hair, items of furniture, famous elephants . . .you name it. So in these pages I hope to PANDER to your curiosity thanks to a historical pimp, MESMERISE you thanks to hypnotist Dr Franz Mesmer, and leave you GOOGLY-EYED with amazement thanks to an American cartoon strip. And then there are the words that look and sound as if someone just plucked them out of thin air: SKULDUGGERY, CODDSWALLOP, JIGGERY-POKERY, CLAPTRAP. But rest assured these words are not mere GOBBLEDYGOOK: there s a cracking story behind each one. As my research progressed I found myself ever more fascinated by English-speaking people and our shared English-speaking history. There is so much about our cultures that can be learned through the strange journeys our words have made: how the medieval SHERIFF ended up in the Wild West; how an African snake-god inspired Hollywood s ZOMBIES; how an English queen was defeated by Irish BLARNEY and a Scottish queen by Portuguese MARMALADE; and how words from POMMY to BARRACKING have got lost in translation en route to Australia. Some distinct themes emerged as I delved into the backgrounds of our favourite words. Amid the genteel romance of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries I found out what playing GOOSEBERRY has to do with gooseberries and what CANOODLING has to do with canoes. But by far the most popular and most wonderful of English words come from the noble art of insulting people. Whether you call someone an IGNORAMUS, a NINCOMPOOP, a PIPSQUEAK, a BUMPKIN, a JACKANAPES, a SCALLYWAG or a PIKEY, you are keeping alive a word that has travelled across borders and through centuries to get here, and surely nobody could take offence at that. I hope you enjoy exploring this ode to the English language as much as I have enjoyed writing it. It turns out etymology is one of the most exciting -ologies out there. And if you want to learn more about it well then now is your chance. Seller Inventory # APC9781546545590

About this Item: Createspace, 2014. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Expanded second edition! All the inspiration and tools from the best-selling original version, plus 33 more career-changing content. How many times have you thought that there s got to be a better way to reach more people and make more money with your music? With a unique approach to touring and turning a profit, singer-songwriter Shannon Curtis has released an in-depth eBook that details how up-and-coming artists can follow her direct-to-fan recipe for making way more fans and way more money. No Booker, No Bouncer, No Bartender: How I Made $25K On A 2-Month House Concert Tour (And How You Can Too) breaks down in plain language and precise detail a plan for artists that doesn t follow the traditional club coffeehouse methodology. Topics covered include: Finding the right hosts: how to build an itinerary using your existing email list and social media relationships Creating the ideal performance space: how to focus your audience and maximize your show s intimacy and connectivity Helping your hosts put together their invite lists: how to set yourself up for a successful event by guaranteeing critical mass Setup and flow: how best to pace the evening to maximize guests experience (and your income!) Gathering donations: how to partner with your host for a financially successful event Merchandise strategies: how to create awareness, maximize your effectiveness, and make more money Making sure you have the right gear: specific equipment recommendations and how-tos But more than just giving procedural suggestions, Curtis goes deeper, thoroughly explaining the psychology and interpersonal dynamics behind her tremendously successful house concert touring method. You won t just come away with a knowledge of what works, you ll understand why it works. Curtis says: My decision several years ago to abandon traditional club touring in favor of house concerts has made my career as an artist better on every measurable level. I sell more albums and merch, generate more income, receive more signups to my email list, and most importantly, I make stronger, deeper connections with the people listening to my music. With this book, I m confident that you can open the door to a whole new world of deeply enriching performance experiences, whether you re a veteran artist or a complete rookie to touring. RAVES: Shannon Curtis captures in this book the essence of what it means to be an independent musician: 100 control of your career and 100 of the benefits. Curtis s alternative model for touring cuts out the middleman, and puts the power (and money) back in the hands of the artists. She s a true entrepreneur, and an inspiration for any artist looking to become successful on their own terms. - Patti Silverman, SF Music Tech As an independent artist who s done nearly 100 house shows, I m here to tell you that anyone who s considered going that route needs this book. Of all the crap we waste money on as artists, nothing I can think of will give you the return on investment this book will. Shannon gives you a staggering level of detail. Stop reading this review and read the book, like, now. - JT Spangler, Nashville musician I just wanted to thank you. I have been expanding my booking schedule and using house shows more frequently and leaning heavily on your model, and it is literally changing my life. I am making more money, and finding myself more fulfilled and encouraged than ever before while building a better fan base than ever before. I can t tell you how much I appreciate it. Thank you. - Bradford Loomis, independent artist, Seattle. Seller Inventory # APC9781496085467

About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2014. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. THE ECONOMY: FIGURES DON T LIE, BUT, LIARS SHOW CAN FIGURE! Folks, as an extreme and neurotic self-made writer I don t expect most people to understand my views. To the shallow I may seem negative or maybe even a cold hearted uncaring hater, but nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact I believe I am sort of a savior in terms of helping this great nation survive the coming troubled times. My view on all of this great news involving the USA economy: Hog wash, hog wash, and more hog wash. I heard a guy on the radio say that the USA government is a parasite and when a parasite grows larger than it s host it kills it s host. I totally agree with the above statement, the USA government haven t got there yet, but is awful close. Our welfare state beast is fast destroying our job producing free enterprise economic engine. Every day the USA government grows larger as our profit driven job producing business host sector dwindles smaller. Never mind what the learned economist and egg heads tell you, I m telling you it is impossible for the USA economy to overall improve or be saved unless the evil 1938 socialist minimum wage law is repealed entirely. Man alone can t save a dying economy, the same as a doctor alone can t save a dying patient, but a true free floating free market place economy can and will save itself along with it s host nation if unshackled and set free. Our evil socialist 1938 minimum wage law ties up and restricts our free market place economy to the point where it can t discipline and save itself. And I m here to tell you I don t care how much tweaking and fine tuning they do nothing can save the USA economy unless it is set free of the evil socialist 1938 socialist minimum wage law entirely. Good economy news: pure poppy cock, liberals always make things better before an important election, I suspect the cost of fuel will soon be coming down considerably. We all are doomed unless? You know what? We are losing our great USA and it impossible to be saved unless we do what must be done, there is no other way, period. SIRMANS LOG: 31 JULY 2014, 1821 HOURS WRITERS VIEW ON THE LAW. About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, 2016. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Excerpt: 1.

About this Item: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, 2016. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. After discontinuing all of my former works, I took an involuntary hiatus from writing seeing as I just felt like I wasn t that inspired. As these poems tend to go, there s a lot of personal issues I talk about and rehashing the past to just kind of let a lot of things go. I just write whatever I feel at any given moment, even in the most obscure verses like coding my heart to be hidden in plain sight. I will say perhaps my writing style is a bit of an acquired taste but I suppose my hope with this is that I ll appeal to a much broader audience by offering a decent amount of descriptions on what inspired certain pieces and what various lines mean to me. I will say I was still reserved in some regard because there s some poems in here that I leave solely to personal interpretation because I feel like it can at times take away from the experience for the reader; at least as far as for those who appreciate a more abstract flavor. I will say that probably over half of it is more or less political depending on how one might interpret various pieces. However, I feel that although a piece may be inspired by one thing and a line may seem to say something in context it can apply to an entire array of various subjects and certainly reflects more about myself than even what I may be talking about. I will caution that some may find certain strokes of honesty to be perhaps mildly offensive, but I m not shy or reserved when it comes to branching out in some shock value as anyone who has seen some of my darker works may attest to. That being said anyone who has actually followed my blog may have seen things that I ve deleted or did not put in this book for personal reasons. Before I even find my general rhythm and feel something is publish worthy I ll filter through hundreds of things I write in just a few months or so and keep the things I genuinely connect with the most. Many writers I m sure can relate to what it feels like to just hit a rut where all you feel like all you re doing is filling pages for the sake of having a longer and yet less meaningful work of art. I will say I ve typically rushed things quite a bit in the past, and I tried to take my time with this one, I probably reread the entire manuscript at least 20 times or more. I don t know if many would see that as a lot or not. Nevertheless I feel it finally came to a place where I m as content as I ll ever be with it although never satisfied. For getting back into the swing of things and having the experience prior, I m sure that whoever has a chance to check it out will certainly appreciate it. Anyway, here it is, finally.VERBAL MOSAICS OF A DISJOINTED HEART. Seller Inventory # APC9781537311838
