About this Item: Discovery Publishing House Pvt. Ltd., 2005. Hardcover. Condition: New. Understanding Management essentially Means not just conceptualizing the theoretical Framework but applying those concepts to analyze the complex Business situations and come out with practicable Solutions to the problems facing businesses in an extremely volatile environment. This is exactly the reason why the `case Study method`, pioneered by the Harvard Business School, is considered the best way to learn management. Case studies aim to enable students to develop analytical and problem-solving skills by presenting either real or imaginary yet potential situations. Business schools around the World have adopted the case method and some of them, quite appropriately, give cases the highest weightage. However, a serious limitation to the successful adoption of the case method in Business schools today is the scarcity of appropriate business cases, particularly relevant to the Indian context, in sufficient numbers, which Forces one to make do with the limited numbers and the alikeness of the available cases. It is exactly to Bridge this gap that we have made an attempt to develop realistic and reasonably challenging cases in various functional areas of management, including Marketing and Human Resource Management, with user-friendly guidelines to analyze them. We have incorporated the various methods of analyzing cases, adopted by the world`s best B-schools to facilitate better understanding of this highly effective learning tool. Some of the cases in this Book have been provided with `suggested solutions` while Others are intended to be used as exercises. We sincerely hope the students of management will find this book useful. Constructive comments and suggestions for improvement of the book would be highly appreciated. Rainfed agriculture has a distinct place in Indian agriculture, occupying 68 per cent of the total cultivated area and supporting 4 per cent of human and 6 per cent of livestock population. In the light of growing population and demand to increase the food production especially in the developing countries with arid and semi arid climate this book mainly focuses on the land use diversification involving multi disciplinary approaches for sustainability in the rainfed regions. The present book consists of twenty three articles in all by experts from various Central and State Government Organisations Agricultural Universities and Research Organisations concerned with rainfed agriculture. These articles covering various aspects of land use diversification for sustainable rainfed agriculture have been arranged into five sections (a) Diversification need of the hour (b) Natural Resources dynamics (c) Alternate land uses (d) Case studies and (e) Capacity building. Each of the articles is highly informative and it is hoped that this book will give an interesting insight into the varied rainfed agriculture related problems in India. It highlights the possible measures sustainable management of land and water resources land use diversification alternate land uses based on climate soil and crop suitability etc. that would help increase the cropland as well as crop and fodder production in rainfed areas. The present book enriched with selected case studies will be particularly useful for students teachers researchers and scientists working in the area of rainfed agriculture and agricultural. Effect of bee attractants on bee visits and yield parameters of Mech 184 BT Hybrid cotton/K. Ganapathi and Shashidhar Viraktamath. Pollen grains are male reproduction units. They are small and formed in the anthers of flowering plants. Abiotic and biotic agents transfer pollen to the receptive site of stigma. Among biotic agents bees are the most important pollen vectors and have established intimate interactive relationships with flowers. The pollen grains carry different kinds of nutrients and upon arrival at the receptive stigma they germinate and continue their growth to the embryo sac in ovary of the flower. Each plant species has evolved a characteristic type of pollen depending on the mode of pollen transport and requirements for pollination process. The pollen characteristics are distinguishable by their outer form chemical composition and nutrient content. They are useful in Paleopalynology and melissopalynology. Paleopalynology refers to the identification of paleontological discoveries while melissopalynology to the identification of geographic and botanical origin of honeys. Morphological characteristics of pollen such as structure size colour and form are important in the reconstruction of vegetation climate of the past and plant diversity. Further they are key issues in plant taxonomy evolution and breeding and in identification of food sources and construction of foraging routes of foragers. Pollen is considered to be a marvelous medium for the growth of fungi and bacteria. Pollen composition varies from species to species. It contains proteins sugars starch amino acids and lipids as major components. The amino acids essential to humans are found in pollen. The polysaccharides such as callose pectin cellulose and lignin sporopollenin are predominant in pollen. Studies show that the pollen on a weight or calorie content basis is rich in protein fat minerals and vitamins when compared to the occurrence of such components in foods such as fried chicken beef baked beans apple raw cabbage tomatoes etc. suggesting that pollen is a substantial source of essential nutrients. Pollen is frequently considered as the perfect complete food. Numerous stories exist about the powers of pollen with reference to its nutritional value. One notable story is that high performance athletes eat pollen considering it as a miracle food to enhance their perfo. Seller Inventory # 62649
