About this Item: Goodspeed Publishing Co., Chicago Illinois. Spiral/Comb. Condition: New. No Jacket. Limited Edition Reprint. Early days in Madison County, MO, are recalled in this booklet, reprinted from excerpts from three rare books: Goodspeed's 1888: History of Southeast Missouri, The State of Missouri (1904), and Missouri, a Guide to the "Show Me" State, a 1930s WPA project. The 44-page spiral bound 8 1/2" x 11" booklet, is photocopied on 60# paper. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover. The 1888 history covers the early development of this area and includes bios of prominent citizens. The 1904 book, written in connection with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, gives a brief overview of the county at that date. Dimensions: 9.0in. x 6.0in. x 0.7in.Over 1000 young men from Rapides Parish joined the Confederate army during the Civil War. Since photography was in its infant stages, most of these soldiers are faceless to us today. But there were many who took portraits of themselves during the war. And some of those portraits are still around. The goal of this book is to put a face behind the Rapides names who served during this historic time of Central Louisiana and the nation. Period and post war photos were located of over 50 young men from Rapides which make the basis of this book. The book includes a little biography and service record of each man. From the top brass of the generals to the private from the back bayou, this book offers a chance to look into the eyes of a variety of Central Louisiana soldiers. Soldiers include: A ARCHINARD, Capt. Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.The Alabama 7th Infantry Regiment was organized at Pensacola, 18 May 1861, with 8 infantry and 2 mounted companies. It remained on duty there until November. The regiment was ordered to Chattanooga in November, and then a month later, was sent to Bowling Green. The remainder of Gen. Bragg s forces were ordered out of Florida on 27 FEB 1862. Gen. Bragg joined up with Gen. Beauregard s forces in Jackson, Tennessee. The 7th was in a temporary brigade under Col. S. A. M. The time of service of most of the companies expired after 12 months during the first week in April, 1862, and the regiment disbanded.
