About this Item: USA: Patchwork by Ma Brew, 1996. Soft cover. Condition: As New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. [44 p.] This book was published by one in a long line of quilt makers, seamstresses, hat makers, etc. She tells of her own quilt-making and that of her forebears, and of the story of the Sunbonnet girl and Sunbonnet quilts and lore in America's history. The Sunbonnet Babies were derived from Kate Greenaway's drawings of Victorian children; there was a Sunbonnet Primer at the turn of the century (18th to 19th), and the cute little figure was popular not just as a quilt pattern but is represented in many homemade toys and crafts, on post cards, decorating children's dishware, in other books, etc. Glossy stapled cardboard covers, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"), fine full-color photographs on every page (including some family photos). The booklet pictures many quilts (with attribution to the makers, etc.), describes how to appliqué, and includes a source list for quilting supplies and a bibliography. Dedicated to Ms. Brew's mother-in-law and inscribed "Enjoy, Jean Brew, 1996" inside the front cover. Perfect condition. Inscribed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 09JB15

About this Item: Walker Books, United Kingdom, 2017. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Lynch, P.J. (illustrator). 1st Edition. A New Signed 1st Edition Hardback - signed by both author and illustrator at an event in Dublin in March 2017. A captivating story which beautifully evokes a seminal moment in the life of JFK through the eyes of a young boy. From foremost radio and television broadcaster, Ryan Tubridy, and Kate Greenaway Medal-winner P. J. Lynch, comes a picture book about President John F. Kennedy's return to his ancestral home in Ireland. When the much-loved President visited Ireland in 1963, he described it as the best four days of his life and, for a generation of Irish people, it was a trip they never forgot. In this warmly told, big-hearted picture book, Ryan captures the fevered excitement in the build-up to JFK's visit - all evoked through the eyes of a young boy called Patrick who wants to know, more than anything, what it would feel like to shake the President's hand.Rooted in historical fact, and marking the centenary of JFK's birth, this feast of a book offers readers a very pure and personal take on JFK's visit to County Wexford and includes a bibliography in the back matter. About this Item: London J M Dent, 1899. Oblong large 8vo, pp ix, [1], with colour frontispiece, title page and 18 colour plates, plus head and tailpieces by Winifred Green, bound in original grey linen pictorial boards, gilt, a little rubbed and marked only, with slight wear to upper joint, but a very good clean sound copy, FIRST EDITION; this issue of the boards, with design in gilt and colour may be the first issue as this copy is inscribed Xmas 1899. The illustrations, with their decorative floral surrounds are clearly influence by Kate Greenaway, though they also anticipate Rae Cramer.
