About this Item: Pomegranate Communications Inc,US, United States, 2013. Paperback. Condition: New. Carl Larsson (illustrator). Language: English . Brand New Book. Carl Larsson (18531919) was a Swedish artist who painted many portraits and book illustrations, but he is remembered above all for the watercolor paintings he made of his wife and children at home. He could paint an empty room, or he might paint a room crowded with kids in fancy costumes. Carls wife, Karin, was an artist too, and their house was full of flowers, books, and painted furniture designed by the two artists. You will find twenty-two of Carl Larssons pictures in this coloring book. They are shown as small pictures on the inside front and back covers. When you color in the line drawings, you could copy the originals or you could try out some color combinations of your own. For instance, the white dress Martha Winslow is wearing in picture number 8 might be red when youre done coloring it! Weve left the last page of this coloring book blank so that you can make a picture of your ownmaybe of your favorite room?. Seller Inventory # AAZ9780764953521

For he was recognized, and rightly so,in his own country where his work has been enjoyed bySwedish people of all ages over a period ofseventy-fiveyears. My introduction to the work of this wonderfulpainter/illustrator came by accident when visiting one evening my friend and colleague Jill MacKay, Secretary of the Association of Illustrators of Great Britain, Jill was returning a book, which she had borrowed some time before, to a Danish friend. The book was opened, I gasped, and it was a further three months before that book was returned to its owner, because once I had it in my hands I could not bear to part with it until I had absorbed it fully. The book was Ett Hem (A Home) illustrated by Carl Larsson, with such delightful water colors and line drawings that I felt I must, as an illustrator, learn more about him. Coincidentally Ilearned that a comrade was preparing a more variedbook on Carl Larsson, and this has enabled me to carry my enthusiasm for Larsson's work into this volume with real purpose.Larsson was born and brought up in Stockholm. He studied art at the Academy there, after which he travelled extensively before settling in France, where for a number of years he lived and painted in the small town of Grez. It was here that he was fortunate in meeting his future wife Karin, a fellow painter. Seller Inventory # 20151210002

About this Item: Oneworld Publications, United Kingdom, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Reprint. Language: English . Brand New Book. WINNER OF THE GLASS KEY AWARD - previous winners include Henning Mankell, Jo Nesbo, Karin Fossum, Stieg Larsson and Arnaldur Indridason A car is found on a deserted beach on the Spanish island of Fuerteventura. On the back seat lies a cardboard box containing the body of a small boy buried in newspaper cuttings. No one knows his name, and there is no trace of a driver. The last thing an ailing tourist resort needs is a murder, and the police are desperate to close the case. The island is rife with rumours about the reclusive Erhard. Two decades of self-imposed exile from his wife and children have left him alienated and alone, whiling away his days in a drunken haze, driving an old taxi to get by. This unlikeliest of detectives determines to solve the crime himself - and he has nothing to lose. But how can one old man, cut off from the modern world, solve a murder whose dangerous web of deceit stretches far beyond the small island? And what if the killer forces Erhard to confront his own long-buried past? Winner of the prestigious Glass Key Award and an instant bestseller in Denmark, The Hermit is taking the international publishing world by storm. Acutely observed and psychologically penetrating, this is existential noir at its finest. Seller Inventory # AA99781786071125

Named a Pick of the Week for the week of February 29th by Publishers Weekly Grouped under three headings, the 13 stories in this outstanding entry in Akashic s noir series capture the gloomy underside of Sweden s capital, portraying the hopelessness of those trapped in what Larson and Edenborg in their introduction call the city that devours your soul. --Publishers Weekly, Starred review Coedited by local authors Larson and Edenborg, this superb sampling of Swedish crime writing talent, some of whose work has been translated into English for the first time here, will be appreciated by fans of Stieg Larsson s Millennium trilogy and Jens Lapidus s Easy Money; they will enjoy getting to know these authors, who write about Stockholm s dark side. --Library Journal Akashic s multivolume Noir series returns to Scandinavia, focusing this time on the capital city of Sweden, a country that is famously neutral in time of war but is also a large-scale dealer in arms.Another worthy entry in this globe-trotting mystery series. --Booklist Larson and Edenborg manage to unearth a dark side to a city that is verdant, clean, and surrounded by crystalline water.Stockholm may not be Marseille, but Larson and Edenborg s contributors show that even a verdant place with socialized medicine can have its seamy side. --Kirkus Reviews The series offers the best of bite-sized crime stories from all over the world--you can t go wrong! --Book Riot On the heels of editions set in Copenhagen and Helsinki comes Stockholm Noir, edited by Nathan Larson and Carl-Michael Edenborg with a predictably discerning eye for stories that wring suspense, violence, and worry from social and political issues percolating in a given milieu. --Village Voice Akashic Books continues its award-winning series of original noir anthologies, launched in 2004 with Brooklyn Noir. Each book comprises all new stories, each one set in a distinct neighborhood or location within the respective city. Brand-new stories by: Unni Drougge, Inger Edelfeldt, Carl-Michael Edenborg, Ake Edwardson, Torbjorn Elensky, Inger Frimansson, Carl Johan De Geer, Martin Holmen, Nathan Larson, Malte Persson, Anna-Karin Selberg, Johan Theorin, and Lina Wolff. From the introduction by Nathan Larson Carl-Michael Edenborg To the tourist, the city of Stockholm appears a shimmering dream. Laid out on a series of islands, it is verdant, clean, and surrounded by crystalline water. On paper, Stockholm is paradise. And in some respects, it truly is. But in most respects, it is anything but. In Stockholm Noir, the city is presented as a gaping maw ready to devour your soul should you wander down the wrong alley.Everywhere is noir. Even, and especially, in a paradise like Sweden, where the citizen is given every tool to go out and become a great success but is paradoxically held to an almost subliminal expectation to fall in line.and never shine so brightly that you disturb your neighbor. In this anthology it s our aim to showcase the darker, grittier, more intense world of Swedish noir fiction. Here the dangers lurking beneath the IKEA lifestyle are given free rein, and words are given to the ambivalence and despair of a model society. Seller Inventory # AAT9781617752971

About this Item: Pomegranate Communications, 2014. General merchandise. Condition: New. Larsson Carl (illustrator). Language: English . Brand New Book. Born into poverty, Carl Larsson (Swedish, 1853 1919) earned a scholarship at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts, and, afterward, supported himself as a commercial illustrator. His career in fine art, in which his ambitions tended toward the monumental and allegorical, was lackluster. This changed when he met his future wife, artist Karin Bergöö. Under her influence, he began to produce light, bright watercolors, modest in scale and subject, for which he is now famous. As shown by the image representedhere, Carl Larsson delighted in rendering the cottage and its inhabitants in loving, lighthearted watercolors that document the family s idyllic country life. About this Item: Amazon Publishing, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: N/A. Brand New Book.
