About this Item: Overlook. 1 Paperback(s), 1999. soft. Condition: New. Was Marilyn Monroe really crowned the Artichoke Queen of Salinas? Did you know that she read James Joyce's Ulysses? And was her death connected in any way to the alien landings in Roswell, New Mexico? Among the most photographed and discussed of 20th-century celebrities, Marilyn receives here the meticulous, multifaceted, affectionate tribute that she deserves. Adam Victor's alphabetical entries encompass Marilyn's films, co-stars, friends, lovers, homes, and peccadilloes, plus articles on the enduring pop culture legends and conspiracy theories that have sprung up in the wake of her 1962 death. You would expect pictures, and there are dozens, snapped by such photographers as Eve Arnold, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Milton Greene."Combining gorgeous color photographs with articles on everything related to or influenced by Marilyn Monroe, [Victor] has composed the definitive question-and-answer book for fans and scholars. Entries range from a few lines to several pages, but all whet the appetite for more. Rather than take sides, Victor simply presents the fact and the folklore that make up the Marilyn mystique."—Library Journal 341. Seller Inventory # 73925

About this Item: Distributed Art Publishers, United States, 2013. Hardback. Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book. In 1955, Peter Mangone was 14 years old--a skinny boy from the Bronx with a Marilyn Monroe fixation, like so many teenagers of his generation. What distinguished Mangone was that he got to meet his idol. For several months, he had played truant from school to stake out the Gladstone Hotel on Manhattan s East 52nd Street, where the 29-year-old Monroe was staying after her unhappy divorce from Joe DiMaggio and her dismissal from the Twentieth-Century Fox studios. One morning, Mangone borrowed an eight-millimeter Kodak camera from his brother, headed down to the Gladstone and met Monroe as she was on her way out shopping with her friend Milton Greene. Mangone s dream came true: she waved, winked and invited him along. Over the course of the afternoon, he filmed her intermittently, without sound, later developing the film and viewing it at home. When Mangone left home, the footage went missing, and was thought to be lost--until 2002, when his brother found it among their father s possessions, virtually in mint condition. It was like refinding my high school sweetheart, he said. She was just the way I remembered her. This book of stills from Mangone s five-minute movie shows the great screen siren in wonderful moments of unguardedness, against the Chevys and Checker cabs of 1950s midtown Manhattan. The great charm of Mangone s images lies at the opposite end of familiar portraits by Cecil Beaton, Elliott Erwitt and co.: in his 14-year-old hands, through the grainy Kodak film, with its erratic lighting, Marilyn remains every inch the icon. About this Item: Schirmer/Mosel Verlag Gmbh, Germany, 2012. Paperback. Condition: New. Rev. ed.. Language: English . Brand New Book. This book unveils probably the last and definitely the finest, unpublished piece of the jigsaw making up the now immortal image of Marilyn Monroe ? photos taken by famous photographer Milton Greene who was Marilyn?s artistic advisor, agent, and business partner from 1954 to 1957. It was Greene who, by clever manoeuvring, freed Marilyn from the shackles of her contract with Twentieth Century Fox and together with her founded the independent production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc., which produced the superb Marilyn Monroe films Bus Stop and The Prince and the Showgirl. The relationship between Marilyn and Milton was always a difficult, but highly fruitful one. It broke down in 1957, when Marilyn?s husband Arthur Miller began to take care of her business affairs. Our book, first published in 1994, offers a rich selection of this photographic treasure. Marilyn Monroe never looked as erotic, as elegant, and as stunningly beautiful as she does in these photography by Milton Greene. Seller Inventory # AAS9783829606141

About this Item: Condition: New. | Format: Hardback | 332 gr | 19x134x209 mm | 223 pp. Seller Inventory # K9783829605991
