About this Item: Concept Publishing Company (P) Ltd., 1996. Hardcover. Condition: New. City structure is a complex system and comprises sets of entities objects, activities, infrastructure and land which are simultaneously interdependent and interactive among themselves and with their environment. The spatial patterning of the entities of this system is determined by a dynamic and probabilistic combination of historical, social, economic and administrative factors. Sociologists, geographers, economists and others have examined the social and economic characteristics of urban neighbourhoods in search for generalizations about this spatial patterning. These studies, commonly known as ecologies seek to understand the relationships among human groups and between them and their socio-economic and physical environments, first describing how and, then, trying to explain why areas differ in the composition and characteristics of their population and activities. This collection of papers bring together all such studies conducted todate on large Indian Cities. The cities covered are, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, Kanpur, Madras, Poona and Sholapur. As social scientists, planners and others face the challenge of comprehending, anticipating and controlling metropolitan urban growth in India, the concepts, assertions and finding of these studies will surely prove to be valuable resources Printed Pages: 289. Heath status of the tribal population is marked by all the negative features that one may find in morbidity and mortality. Poverty illiteracy malnutrition lack of personal hygiene unsanitary conditions and absence of health education poor mother and child health services and poor coverage of the national preventive programmes have been found responsible for the poor health of the tribal communities. Besides poor coverage the tribal communities have their own systems of medicines dispensed through the medium of shamans herbalists and witchdoctors which also act as a barrier in healthcare programmes. Finally some specific genetic diseases such as sickle cell anaemia G 6 PD deficiency etc. are largely located in the tribal hinterlands. The government of India has implemented specific programmes for the healthcare development of the tribal communities and there have been encouraging results. However much is required to be known in the area of tribal morbidity and traditional systems of medicines. The present work is an attempt to being together the clinical and biogenetic aspects. About this Item: Daya Publishing House, 1999. Hardcover. Condition: New. Mountain Agriculture though peculiar in many ways, is limited by a low land-man Ratio - the cultivated land is only 0.15 hectares as against the national figure of 0.34 hetares with only one-fifth of cultivated area under assured irrigation. Although efforts to develop hill agriculture were initiated in early fifties, planned development programme came to be evolved only in late sixties. But the Fruits of the so called `green revolution` have not yet reached these hilly Regions because of a paraphernalia of constraints. Furthermore, the severity of Soil Erosion and soil degradation is much more and widespread in hill agriculture due to fragile ecosystem and its impact on plains through downstream sedimentation and flooding. Cattle Grazing and Forest Fodder lopping in the hills further accelerate the soil erosion by denuding Forests and pastures. The present volume, consisting of 28 well researched papers, contributed by eminent scholars from different state Agricultural universities; ICAR-institutions and various Research Institutions makes an indepth Study of various aspects and growth of hill agriculture in a broad perspective in order to better the life of the people dwelling in these beautiful hilly areas. This valuable compilation will be of immense use for all those who are interested and concerned with Indian agriculture in General and hill agriculture in particular.
