La obra se estreno en Madrid a mediados del mismo ano, y en la Ciudad de Mexico el cinco de diciembre en el Teatro Principal. Si le gusta reirse, descargue y disfrute esta comedia escrita por el dramaturgo Mejicano, Manuel Eduardo de Gorostiza. Esta obra de teatro en cuatro actos, se dice que Gorostiza escribio para tratar de curar a su hija, Luisa de un encaprichamiento amoroso con un pretendiente sin dinero - y por supuesto la escribio para entretener. En esta comedia, Matilde -muchacha de 17 anos- influida por las lecturas de novelas sentimentales, cambia su parecer de desposarse con el joven don Eduardo. Al intuir que la decision de Matilde se ve trastocada por el deseo de pobreza y adversidad derivado de tales lecturas, Eduardo finge estar desheredado y pide a su suegro, don Pedro, simular un gran desprecio por el, situacion que lleva a Matilde a aceptar casarse de manera clandestina con don Eduardo y aceptar vivir en un cuarto desprovisto de lujos y comodidades. Don Pedro, finalmente, termina con la farsa -sin que ella lo advierta- al proponerle al matrimonio que viva en su casa. La joven acepta con la seguridad de que su esposo pronto recuperara su herencia y, desde el escarnio, reconoce que la vida de los pobres esta idealizada en los libros, comparada con la realidad. Manuel Maria del Pilar Eduardo de Gorostiza y Cepeda (Veracruz, Virreinato de Nueva Espana, 13 de octubre de 1789 - Tacubaya, Mexico, 23 de octubre de 1851) fue un dramaturgo, periodista y diplomatico hispanomexicano. Su padre, el brigadier Pedro Fernandez de Gorostiza, era gobernador del puerto de Veracruz e inspector general de las tropas de Nueva Espana. Su madre, mujer de gran cultura, con un doctorado de la Universidad de Sevilla y descendiente de la familia de santa Teresa de Jesus, se llamaba Maria del Rosario Cepeda y Mayo. El 8 de noviembre de 1794 fallecio su padre y la familia se traslado a Cadiz. Manuel Eduardo inicia estudios eclesiasticos que abandona poco despues para dedicarse a la carrera de las armas. Al estallar la Guerra de la Independencia es capitan de granaderos y lucha durante la mayor parte de la misma. El 30 de diciembre de 1811 se casa en Madrid con Juana de Castilla o Castillo. En 1814 alcanza el grado de coronel, pero poco despues recibe un bayonetazo que le deja encorvada la espalda; empieza a dedicarse entonces a otras actividades, como la literatura y la politica. Se conoce poco acerca de su infancia y juventud: su principal biografo, Eustaquio Fernandez de Navarrete, afirma que estudio en un colegio en Francia. Mas tarde curso estudios en Penaflorida, viviendo con su tio abuelo. Formo parte de la Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del Pais, fundada por Penaflorida, donde leyo sus primeras fabulas. La primera coleccion de las mismas fue publicada en Valencia en 1781. De su entusiasmo por los enciclopedistas, tal vez nacido de su educacion en Francia, adquirio la aficion por la critica mordaz contra la politica y la religion; se burlo de los privilegios, y llego a rechazar un cargo ofrecido por Floridablanca. Sus cuentos mas subidos de tono fueron compuestos al estilo de las Fabulas eroticas de Jean de la Fontaine. Por estos escritos y otros de indole anticlerical, sufrio la persecucion de la Inquisicion: el Tribunal de Logrono trato de confinarlo en un convento en 1793 tras considerar anticlerical y licenciosa parte de su obra, y le confino durante varios meses en un convento en Portugalete; se salvo del castigo gracias a la intervencion de sus influyentes amigos. Se desconocen, sin embargo, los detalles del proceso inquisitorial. Segun Julio Caro Baroja, fue recluido por una temporada en el convento bilbaino del Desierto por denuncias respecto a su irreverencia.
