About this Item: Wisdom Tree, New Delhi, India. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Nehru: A Troubled Legacy raises a fundamental question: Have we yet made an honest assessment of Nehru—and in effect, an honest assessment of India’s contemporary history? To investigate this significant gap, the author digs deep into historical records and in turn, raises several pertinent questions. Was Nehru truly a ‘great democrat’ as many of his acolytes suggest or was he just cleverly grooming his daughter for the top job and dislodging her potential challengers from key positions in the party and government? Was he a man of principles or did he adopt double standards whenever it suited him? Did he ever have a proper measure of India’s defence needs or was he foolhardy when it came to defence matters? Did he take a strong, principled stand against corruption or did he go out of his way to protect and promote cronies and some of his favourites who faced serious charges of corruption? Was he the great leader of the Congress and India as he has thus far been made out to be or was he a person given to human frailties like being petty and manipulative? A scholarly and dispassionate analysis of these and many other ignored or hidden questions sheds new light on Nehru’s handling of the nation and its long-term impact on our national character. A must-read for anyone interested in understanding the complex relationship Nehru had with India’s nation builders like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and Dr Rajendra Prasad as also in unravelling the true state of Indian affairs—pre-Independence and in the decades after Independence—beyond what the propaganda machines have fed us over the years.Printed Pages: 354. About this Item: Lexis Nexis, 2012. Softcover. Condition: New. Justice G P Singh, former Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, is among the most distinguished jurists of the country. He has delivered a range of judgments on varied branches of law. His judgments are distinctive in their clarity, logic and narrative quality. A study of his craft, method and style will be a beneficial exercise for the legal fraternity as well as new entrants to the judiciary. Justice Singh`s judgments show a full application of mind to the relevant facts of the case, the issues which arise for decision and the application of law to these facts. An analysis of the judgments reveals the facts in dispute and the facts which have to be determined. Every judgment is a self-contained document consisting of a comprehensive analysis of facts, a description of the controversy which was settled by the Court and most importantly the reasons based on which a conclusion was reached. The judgments reveal the law and principle on which the reasoning is based along with the judge`s own view. For these reasons, the judgments are particularly helpful to the Appellate Courts. This book will be of great help to National and State Judicial Training Academics, practicing lawyers, legal scholars and law students studying legal method and case analysis, and also to members of the judiciary who want to further improve and perfect their judgments. The biographies have not been arranged in any particular order. The present volume is the part II of the volume VII and includes the memoirs of 20 eminent plant pathologists including a few namely Butler Mundkur and Mehta who laid foundations of plant pathology in India. Most of the articles have been written by subject matter specialists who have been in close touch with the distinguished plant pathologists. But in certain cases only the published material formed the basis for the write up but even these have included personal anecdotes to indicate their intimate interest in the subject it teaching and students. This volume will inspire the young mind to chose plant pathology as a career and the old mind to go deeper in the subject and solve complex plant pathological problems to serve the society. 226 pp. Seller Inventory # 63047

This service includes artistic literary and scientific achievements as well as recognition of public service of the highest order. Unlike knights holders of the Bharat Ratna carry no special title nor any other honorifics but they do have a place in the Indian order of precedence. The award was established by the first President of India Rajendra Prasad on January 2 1954. Along with other major national honours such as the Padma Vibhushan Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri the awarding of the Bharat Ratna was suspended from July 13 1977 to January 26 1980. The honour has been awarded to forty persons a list which includes two non Indians and a naturalized Indian citizen. Originally the specifications for the award called for a circular gold medal carrying the state emblem and motto among other things. It is uncertain if a design in accordance with the original specifications was ever made. The actual award is designed in the shape of a peepul leaf and carries the Hindi written words Bharat Ratna on the front. 320 pp. Seller Inventory # 72875

About this Item: Wisdom Tree, 2015. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Nehru - A Troubled Legacy raises a fundamental question. Have we yet made an honest assessment of Nehru and in effect, an honest assessment of India’s contemporary history? To investigate this significant gap, the author digs deep into historical records and in turn, raises several pertinent questions. Was Nehru truly a 'great democrat' as many of his acolytes suggest or was he just cleverly grooming his daughter for the top job and dislodging her potential challengers from key positions in the party and government? Was he really a 'secular' person or was secularism a mask for his disdain, nay, hatred for Hinduism? Was he a man of principles or did he adopt double standards whenever it suited him? Did he ever have a proper measure of India’s defense needs or was he foolhardy when it came to defense matters? Did he take a strong, principled stand against corruption or did he go out of his way to protect and promote cronies and some of his favorites who faced serious charges of corruption? Was he the great leader of the Congress and India as he has thus far been made out to be or was he a person given to human frailties like being petty and manipulative? A scholarly and dispassionate analysis of these and many other ignored or hidden questions sheds new light on Nehrus handling of the nation and its long-term impact on Indias national character. A must-read for anyone interested in understanding the complex relationship Nehru had with our nation-builders like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and Dr Rajendra Prasad, as also in unraveling the true state of Indian affairs pre-Independence and in the decades after Independence beyond what the propaganda machines have fed us over the years. 'Why is it that with all the will in the world, I cannot understand what is obvious to you? I am not as far as I know suffering from intellectual decay. Should you not then set your heart on at least making me understand what you are after?' - Mahatma Gandhi to Nehru "You are in habit of proclaiming that you stand by yourself and represent nobody else. At the same time, you call yourself a socialist sometimes, a full-blooded socialist. How a socialist can be an individualist as you regard yourself beats me. The one is anti-thesis of the other." - Subhas Chandra Bose to Nehru. Seller Inventory # 115648
