About this Item: Berlin, Walter de Gruyter (Ed. Niemeyer), 2013. Gr.-8°, Ppbd. Verlagsfrisch New copy Latinitates (LATIN 6) Poésie latine à haute voix (1500-1700) Etudes réunies L. Isebaert, A. Smeesters (eds.) 238 p., 160 x 240 mm, 2013 ISBN: 978-2-503-54145-7 Languages: French, English, Italian Paperback The publication is available. About this Item: Walter de Gruyter, 2013. Hardback. Condition: New. Language: German . Brand New Book. About this Item: Apud Paulum Baleonium, Venetiis, 1644. In-8° piccolo (160 x 105 mm) pp. [14] 1b, 480, [32] legatura in piena pergamena coeva, titolo manoscritto al dorso, tagli spruzzati. Margine superiore piuttosto ridotto. Restauro al dorso, nel complesso buon esemplare. Quarta edizione. B. Croce, Storia dell'età barocca in Italia, Laterza 1929. Olschki e Cat Vinciana citano altre edizioni. Famiano Strada fu letterato, storico e moralista nato a Roma (1572-1649) . (Treccani, Carlo Morandi, 1936). Seller Inventory # 20809

About this Item: Lyon, H. Cardon, 1617. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. apud Horatium Cardon [12], 420, [16] p., w. blank leaf 2D2, title in red & black in woodcut border, very good copy, half-russia (c.1800), hairline crack in upper joint. First published at Rome the same year; there was also a Köln edition in 1617.Famiano Strada (1572-1649) is best known for De Bello Belgico (1632 and often), but these lectures, on style and criticism, at the Collegium Romanum were also very popular. The book is now remembered for two of several neolatin poems in an imaginary pageant supposedly under the patronage of Leo X, in which notable Renaissance figures appear in the guise of Roman poets (II, 5-6). Pietro Bembo appears as Lucretius, and the poem given to him by Strada has a minor place in the prehistory of telecommunications as an anticipation of the electric telegraph (Sir Thomas Browne tried it, but found it didn't work - Pseudoxia II, 3). Baldassare Castiglione appears as Claudian, and his poem, the contest between the musician and the nightingale, became better known than anything by Claudian himself. There are two fine, but very different, contemporary imitations in English, the first by John Ford in The Lover's Melancholy (1629), the other by Richard Crashaw, as Music's Duel. Cf. Gordon, Lucretius, 303-7 (who does not know this edition). Ask for our catalogue “Classical Antiquity. and after”, coming out in September, printed and electronic. Seller Inventory # 26192

About this Item: Carolus Boscardus, Audomari (Saint-Omer), 1619. OCLC, 459097790. -- Rare Saint-Omer edition of the Latin schoolbook, first published in 1617, by the famous Jesuit historian Famiano Strada (1572-1679), best known for De Bello Belgico (1632), even though these lectures, on style and criticism and other literary topics, at the Collegium Romanum, were also very popular.
