About this Item: D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd and N.K. Bose Memorial Foundation, 2006. Hardcover. Condition: New. First edition. The volume presents views on life from the traditional as well as modern perspectives to come up with many interpretations. Indologists, anthropologists, sociologists, philosophers and physical and social scientists profess that traditional thought and modern science offer two different world-views on life: the first encompassing a wholeness of life, and the other explaining the universe and life with ideas of the realm of matter alone. Referring to various ancient texts as well as thoughts of social scientists based on empirical studies, the contributors delve into the Upanishadic and Vedic concepts of life, and the Hindu astrological and ayurvedic perception of life. They examine the Christian perspective of life as well. Discussing the theme from the viewpoint of physical law, the book surveys evolution of life and extinction theories, focusing on development of life over 600 million years from simple to complex. It ponders over questions like radical difference between living and non-living matter though both consist of molecules. Connecting science to societal development, it deals with ancient community theories on life and nature taking specific ethnic communities like the Mesoamericans and the Santals in India as examples. The book is an all-inclusive and extensive study of traditional and scientific perspectives on the life origin, urges and responses, meaning and essence of life, and its development. Indian contribution has also been laudable and it is amply noticed through the figures of Mother Goddesses even from the pre Indus culture. This was followed in the subsequent ages throughout India and Varanasi being a great religious centre has also left an indelible imprint in this regard. This book incorporates a good number of papers on multiple aspects of Sakta traditions practised in Varanasi continuing from hoary past to date. Beside philosophical religious and cultural leanings the contents expose the iconographic ritualistic and artistic rendering of the divine mother. Kasi or Varanasi has been a stronghold of religious and spiritual fervour and several religious sects have contributed to its present texture. Saktism has also been a forceful current in the cultural stream of this holy city. This is evidenced by several Devi temples Sakti pithas yantras fairs and festivals associated with the worship of Mother Goddess. 148 pp. Seller Inventory # 58970

About this Item: Ritu, Jaipur, 2007. Hardbound. Condition: As New. New. Contents Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Geographical background. 3. Human resource development. 4. Economic resource development and land use. 5. Quality of life in human settlements. 6. Hierarchy of rural growth centres. 7. Case studies (Urban and rural). 8. Problem and planning of rural growth centre for integrated area development. Bibliography. Appendix. In a country like India where majority of people are living in rural villages integrated rural development planning has got special significance. Appropriate location of social and economic activities over a physical space is considered to be essential for achieving balanced development of a region because we cannot provide all services and development programmes for all settlements due to scarcity of resources. The growth centres are an appropriate method for micro level planning as it takes a whole hierarchy of centre places with its hinterland on its focus. The emphasis in micro level planning lies on the planning from the lowest level to the highest level with a clearly demarcated region. Therefore growth centers oriented integrated area planning is the best approach for development of local resource potential and infrastructural facilities. The book is great importance for students of post graduate M. Phil and research scholars in disciplines of science and social sciences. The book is also useful to solve the problem of regional imbalances and achieve balanced regional development. 152 pp. Seller Inventory # 61002

There are numerous studies on the application of location allocation procedures for solving the problems of space partitioning and allocating new location for infra structural facilities and obnoxious locations like nodal points of road networking market as well as social facilities of an area location of commercial and economic enterprises and locational provisions of distribution of new agricultural technology search the multi criteria decentralized solid waste management facilities and so on. The problems of locational decision in spatial planning have been recognized in three ways (a) the minimisation of Euclidean distance between facility location and users home on a plane (b) the optimization of multi facility locations and hierarchies which tried to solve by applying integer programming formulations and (c) the network optimization problems which have been attempted to solve by considering inter connected nodes representing transport and communication systems and their dynamic aspects. Optimization of space has now become the main theme of operational researches. The similar problems are cropping up in the newly organised spatial activities in the countries of growing economies where clusters of new activities that are recently emerging nodes and reorientation of local economies in its global perspective are major issues to solve. Present proceedings of the conference include the articles on these aspects and would be immense use f. Seller Inventory # 60076

Such as personal social economical political and education also. When we think about the rapid charges in education we feel some confusion or feel a situation of dilemma. Therefore we last fully accept aided or self financing college or semi aided and so on. Mostly the situation of teacher education is on the Dilemma. Therefore we feel to discuss about this condition. So that we organised a National Seminar on Teacher Education in Dilemma dated 12 13 Nov. 2005 at Prayag Mahila Mahavidyalaya Allahabad. The past one decade has seen an unprecedented accumulation of knowledge concerning quality impact in teachers education. Unfortunately the very mass of the information explosion has created problems for those concerned with disseminating the material. School college and university course initially structured to meet the growing demand for quality impact awareness has become and uphill struggle for teachers and students alike. This is the era of globalization. There is a move towards flexible specialization. Things that men/women desire like and prefer are values provided should be desirable. The range of desire like and preferences may be limited or unlimited. 148 pp. Seller Inventory # 63176

The NEP 1986 (modified in 1922), therefore, provides meaningful perspectives and indicates what largely needs to be done--the objectives are clearly defined and the strategies adequately pinpointed. We now need three things: a clear grasp of various issues in education, downright avoidance of cumbersome treatises along philosophical lines, and a marked emphasis on implementation. National policy on Education : An Overview seeks to fulfil this need. It has seventeen fresh and perceptive articles by reputed experts, educationists and managers of education on various aspects of the policy. Subjects covered include: literacy, drop-outs and stagnation, elementary education, women's education, education for scheduled castes & tribes, Navodaya Vidyalayas, vocational education, autonomous colleges, examination reforms, academic calendar, distance education, physical education and sports, textbooks integral education KVS, values for education, and management of education. The contributors suggest practical approaches and workable strategies to attain the avowed goals. Within the overall frame-work of the policy, they present critical analyses, wherein areas of strength and weaknesses are located, case-studies and micro-planning favoured, integral and holistic viewpoints commended.". About this Item: PHI Learning, 2014. Softcover. Condition: New. First edition. Natural resource management and sustainable development has, of late, assumed great importance, especially because of ecological crisis and environmental dangers which are looming large. Today the issues related to natural resource exploitation, consequences, their conservation, preservation and management leading to sustainable development have become the major thrust areas of teaching and research. Also, sustainability of natural resources, especially water and land resources, and their efficient use is one of the core programmes of Government of India?s Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012?2017) for strategic development; this objective can only be achieved if the resources are used judiciously. Although land and water resources?the focus of the present book?are vital for human survival and development, unfortunately both are under threat and are increasing strain worldwide. These resources have wide and significantly varying implications in rural and urban settlements, especially in India, where population has been continuously growing and, therefore, the demand of land and water is intensifying. This has necessitated urgent need for reviewing the availability of land and water resources and their conservation. Besides dealing with the theoretical aspects, this compendium presents case studies on natural resources as well, which reveal ground realities at micro and meso levels too. Pedagogical features like maps, diagrams, satellite imageries and latest database of the primary and secondary nature distinguish this book from other works on the subject. The book will be of immense use to postgraduate students and research scholars of geography and related disciplines such as rural?urban studies and environmental science. The thematic approach of the book provides reasonably good contents for cogitation to researchers. Policy makers, planners and academicians may also be benefitted while framing futuristic norms which may lead to sustainable development?the ultimate goal. AUDIENCE ?
