About this Item: Herisena, 2013. NA.. Condition: New. 140pp. Under a new title this book is an abridged edition of An Introduction to the Ajanta Caves: With Examples of Six Caves, 1st ed. (Baroda: Hari Sena Press, 2012) by the same author./This edition is focused on the paintings of Ajanta, and does away from the detailed historical developments of the caves. The book highlights the corpus of the paintings that are currently extant on the site. It is somewhat in line with the earlier attempts by Robert Gill (1862, 1864, 1867), John Griffiths (1896-97), Gulam Yazdani (1930-55), Dieter Schlingloff (1999, 2013), and Monika Zin (2003) to accommodate the painted narratives and major non-narrative themes with corresponding illustrations and descriptive texts. Before Schlingloff and Zin, some of the painted themes were never identified at all; some were incorrectly identified; and many were correctly identified but various events, episodes, and scenes within a particular narrative or non-narrative panel were never fully explained. Schlingloff and Zin have done so with remarkable detail. Their illustrations are drawings, which are better suited for the purpose of in-depth study. There was a need to learn the same with the help of photographs. This book serves exactly the same purpose, albeit in an abridged format. For the first time, a book accommodates, within the space of a single volume: the entire corpus of the extant panels of the narrative and non-narrative themes (86 panels). all the latest identifications of the painted themes by Dieter Schlingloff of Leipzig University and Monika Zin of Ludwig-MaximiliansªUniversitat Munich. short retelling of the Jatakas and other stories (86 narrative and non-narrative painted panels). long-exposure, low light, fine arts photography of 86 painted panels (143 colour photos).Nontechnical language is used to help the students and general readers understand the entire corpus of the Ajanta paintings. At the same time, the content is so presented as to keep the expert readers engaged. Seller Inventory # 306228

About this Item: Atlantic Publishers & Distributors (P) Ltd., 2011. Hardcover. Condition: New. Comparative study of literature in the same language or in different languages through translation seems imperative today as it contributes to critical scholarship and revaluation of literature. Such studies with their multilingual range not only widen the horizons of knowledge but also contribute to the better understanding of one work of literature in the light of the other having striking similarities or conspicuous contrasts. Critics like Arnold also prescribed the comparative method for discovering the nerve of literature. Glimpses of Comparative Literature is an attempt to throw light on such subjects as Eastern and Western poetics, ontology of language, colonial and postcolonial literature, modernism and postmodernism, translation studies and a few other aspects of literature. No literature in modern age may claim to be an independent and isolated unit. Its national boundary of alienation must give way to de-alienation and intercommunion on a universal level. Only then it may serve some useful purpose for the human race. With these ends in view, papers on a similarity of themes have been included so that they may give an incentive to the readers for refining their taste in the appreciation of literature. The book will prove useful to the students and teachers of English Literature and researchers in this field. To those desirous of making a comparative study of literature in different languages through translation, the book offers a richly rewarding and intellectually stimulating reading. About this Item: Manohar Publishers & Distributors, 2010. Hardcover. Condition: New. Over a hundred and fifty years after the mid-nineteenth century, North-Western India underwent a degree of social Transformation that was, indeed, impressive. A collective effort alone can unravel the Complex Nature of the processes underlying this remarkable change. This is what the book sets out to do. Its historical perspective reveals diverse modes of resistance and response, especially in the Punjab, to a Colonial Ideology that sought to institute subtle, yet powerful, forms of social control. After Independence, the much celebrated Green Revolution drew the peasantry of North-Western India into the vortex of economic trends that had unexpected and far-reaching consequences--which are today a matter of great concern. Long-term social currents that had been stirring rather slowly in the Region gained momentum. As a result, the process of societal change, started earlier, began to strain against the restrictive fabric of the traditional social order. Social Transformation in North-Western India endeavours to explain the multidimensionality of change that is so characteristic of the region. This book would be of Interest as much to the social scientist and the Policy maker as to the Journalist and the lay reader. Contents: I. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES : 1. About this Item: Condition: New. Publisher/Verlag: Springer Netherlands | The Art and Science Behind Successful Product Launches | 7. 1. 1 Background Uncertainty can be considered as the lack of adequate information to make a decision. It is important to quantify uncertainties in mathematical models used for design and optimization of nondeterministic engineering systems. In general, - certainty can be broadly classi?ed into three types (Bae et al. 2004; Ha-Rok 2004; Klir and Wierman 1998; Oberkampf and Helton 2002; Sentz 2002). The ?rst one is aleatory uncertainty (also referred to as stochastic uncertainty or inherent - certainty) - it results from the fact that a system can behave in random ways. For example, the failure of an engine can be modeled as an aleatory uncertaintybecause the failure can occur at a random time. One cannot predict exactly when the engine will fail even if a large quantity of failure data is gathered (available). The second one is epistemic uncertainty (also known as subjective uncertainty or reducible - certainty) - it is the uncertainty of the outcome of some random event due to lack of knowledge or information in any phase or activity of the modeling process. By gaining information about the system or environmental factors, one can reduce the epistemic uncertainty. For example, a lack of experimental data to characterize new materials and processes leads to epistemic uncertainty. | I: Innovation and information sharing in product design: Improving Intuition in Product Development Decisions, by Jeffrey Hartley; Design Creativity Research, by Amaresh Chakrabarti; User Experience-Driven Wireless Services Development, by Jee Y.
